I loved Prince before the internet.

I don't really care about this stuff, like someone else said I'm in it for the music BUT.....

I don't know how my musical life would be if I hadn't heard Purple Music or Extralovable or the 1986 version of We Can Funk. I don't know if the Detroit birthday show was officially released but I saw it as a boot and I swear it ignites my love of his music all over again.

I don't care about the pictures and I really don't care about grainy video from a cellphone but all this shit is distracting. If P had a killer album out right now, I probably couldn't be arsed to even make a comment on these threads.

Prince might b a control freak but fact is that he delivers more music than almost anyone else in the industry, so i think that it's more than enough...

But no, I dont feel controlled because if I REALLY want a pic or vid I can find it. This is the net. And autographs? Alot of people dont do that. Besides, he might not like those autograph whores that just get all they can from anyone and sell them.

Prince...controlling and censoring me!??? That's a laugh!!! Being his fan is one of the only parts of my life that is stress and worry free...something I do that's just for me! I have a very fast paced high stress job, and the rest of the time I'm too busy to worry about old videos, youtube and the like. I'll gladly take what shows I can get to and any CD's he's willing to share.

Honestly, I haven't been affected personally. I still have the CD's I bought, a few pics, the Purple Rain movie, and I love the clip of the concert on the 3121 site and any videos I can watch. The only thing that I was a little disappointed in was the removal of some videos from certain sites.

Only until the day that Prince personally comes to my home and demands I give him back his music, I'm cool!

We willingly subscribe to being fans and we all have the ability to turn it on or off at any time. I like other musicians too, just not as much...but then, Prince is original.

The fact that he has "rules" about how he wants to be treated is no different than the rest of us. (The specifics might be different, but the fact that there are rules is not.)

Many celebs have "rules" about photographs and autographs, etc. I think this is more about protecting themselves than it is about turning off their supporters.

But in a way, aren't these "quirks" the reason we love Prince so much?

I'd feel priviledged and blessed if given the chance to see him in concert or in person... but if I don't get that chance, that's okay too.

Like others have said Prince has his views, I've got mine. They don't have to agree for me to appreciate the musician. Some of my favorite artists seem to be fucked up as people (poor, poor Amy) but whatever, I still love the art.

Moreover, he's made no secret that he's controlling when it comes to his image or his art. Although it may suck, it doesn't surprise me when he acts like he's always acted.

You only have the right to purchase his music, movies/videos, and concert tickets through legal channels. That's it. You don't have the right to post videos online or distribute copyrighted photos.

If you feel controlled or censored, ask yourself what the cause of that is.

Keep in mind that there is a reason for Prince's actions on the Internet; we just don't know what they are yet.

Perhaps there is a video anthology in the works, and he is raising interest/demand for that. Just an example; my point is we don't know.
