I doubt it would've been a hit with the masses, but I would've loved it!

Oh, jeez I hadn't thought of it like that! But, the non-Camille SOTT tracks would've probably made up the next album anyway, so...

No Doubt. I think it would have been as much of a hit as SOTT was - although at least around here most people hated If I was Your Girlfriend when it was released as a single, so who knows.

Bad timing, no promo video - A lot of things conspired against IIWYGF as a single release.

All true, and it doesn't help that all the guys I knew immediately assumed prince was gay when that song came out...

it would have been a hit, Prince was still commercially viable in those days. Also it would have got good reviews (which would have helped it).

I personally beleive that IIWYGF could never be a hit (unless its sang by girls) because of the homosexual connotations on first listen.

I do beleive that
Strange Relationship, Feel U Up and Shockadelica could have been hits if marketed properly. particularly SL.

If this album had been released in October 1986 (as planned),I doubt that it would have become a major hit.It would have done well on the R&B stations though....songs like "Housequake","Good Love" and "Shockadelica" would have been all over R&B radio stations.

I'd buy it in heartbeat! Fabulous! I think that Camille was one of my favourite alter-ego's.

On the IIWYGF debate - I have to say that I'm glad it was never released as a single to be pulled apart by the philistines, I see it as a rare and beautiful gift for those of us that cared enough to buy the album
I'm not stopping. I haven't even taken my coat off

I know theres no point in saying this, but I strongly disagree with you! Prince was hot back then, a couple of songs would have been hits.

Oh,I agree...there surely would have been a few hits on this album. The album would have done well with R&B audiences, but I don't think it would have been a major, mainstream album for Prince (like 'SOTT').This album probably would have had the same impact as 'The Black Album' and would have easily went gold, but probably not platinum.

I wish they'd release Rebirth of the Flesh. It deserves more than a mention in "walk don't walk", and that rehearsal that only members of his club got.

It would've been a five star album. Oh well, at least I can make it a playlist on my iPod.

regardless of sales, it would now be listed as one his his greatest by critics and fans alike.

Those songs have all aged incredibly well. cool as hell.

not a bad song in the bunch

let's see - that would have been released after Parade? then yes i think it might have gone down as a stone cold classic by critics and fans. No SOTT its true though some tracks might have gone to the next album - lovesexy - but perhaps then no batman and no graffiti bridge
