I've been noticing it for quite some time now.

Purple Rain, Planet Earth and TGE are all possibilities too. But the NPG operators and constant skipping make it difficult to tell. Purple Rain & PE have seem to have a storyline going on thru their middle tracks and come out on the other side in completely new territory.

Well, I don't play LPs anymore so I play all the songs in a row. But you have a point. I have this when I listen to PE. The first 5 songs are great and the last 5 are mediocre.

I think I even went so far as to NAME the 2 halves of "Come"

The first half is "Purple Fantasy"... where he takes on diff. personalities and experiments, etc, etc.
The 2nd half is "Reality in Darkness", the darker half where things get more serious.

And Dirty Mind is a classic example.
It starts out pretty "safe," I think. The lyrics, you'd expect from Prince... and it threw me into a false sense of security.
After Uptown, things got "dirtier"... and even more exciting!! Took me by surprise and that's why I thought it was brilliant when I heard it the first time.

Maybe its just the Gemini thing... but I really feel like the first half of his albums sound completely different from the 2nd half.

I once stripped TGE down the middle and claimed which songs sounded more like Prince and which sounded more like ... I don't think many bought into that either... but w/e.
