The Chocolate Invasion & The Slaughterhouse With the whole 21 Nights In London going on recently my interest in all things Price has been renewed. I've found some gems that I had previously missed (The Word on 3121 for instance) and I remembered downloading The Chocolate Invasion and The Slaughterhouse a few years ago...
I dismissed both albums upon my first listen. Was I right to do so or are there some gems on these CDs?

IMO, the Chocolate invasion is a great album - slightly generic in production, but has some great tunes. Slaughterhouse just wasnt my cup of tea as it sounds like the castoffs from a NPG album.

I dismissed both albums upon my first listen. Was I right to do so or are there some gems on these CDs? You missed out then! Both are high quality albums with a nice, warm modern sound production. I like Slaughterhouse a little better because it's a little more upbeat and funkier. ..... Just say "NO" to cow mucus consumption!

I feel the same way about both. The Chocolate Invasion is worth it purely for the earlier version of The Dance which, in my opinion, leaves the 3121 version in the dust. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

The only really "plastic" sounding stuff from Prince's 80's run to me is 1999, and that's just because it was part of its intentionally cold, subtly bleak, futuristic theme. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

I tend to like Chocolate better than Slaughterhouse.
I try to piece the old rumored "High" cd sometimes but maybe 3-4 tracks on each CD I tend to like. The rest of the songs are kind of bland. Maybe they were better demos, or could have been mixed together to make better songs. U2 does that alot, record 5 songs, edit them down to 2 or 3 good ones.
