New topic Printable1.90 as well, but agree the quality is far higher, appears to have been re-remastered. I pickup the dvd a couple of years back and it was an improvement to the flat sounding VHS but this version really kicks out of my 7 speaker Pc set up. Well played Observer and thank you Prince - is he after a British Passport or something?

One complaint about this free version: it's one continuous chapter. I ripped the official release onto my iPod a few weeks back and was able to stick the chapters in to easily skip to songs. I wanted to re-do it with this seemingly remastered DVD.

Brilliant! I went back to the shop to get a couple more copies for stateside homies who asked and they were actually playing the DVD on the shop TV!

It is a huge improvement on the VHS and German/Dutch DVD versions available to date, but here's a weird thing: I have the Canadian remaster (which is the dog's bollocks). The picture and sound quality seem almost as good, if not in 5.1 but the sound is half a note sharp! They must have compressed the sound or something. I tried playing my guitar along to it and had to slide up a fret. Then I put on the Canadian DVD and my guitar was in perfect tune. Very strange! That means that the film with the Observer is slightly shorter. Ask for yer fucking money back!

Pardon me? Prince plays in Europe for 21 nights, not including all of the aftershows, and some of the Europeans have the nerve to moan and complain about everything. He didn't play every after show.

The Canadian release will be in NTSC whereas the Observer DVD is PAL which runs 4% faster due to the differing frame rates between the two formats. Most people can't notice the difference, but some people can and you obviously fall into that category.

This and the Lovesexy concert were as much theatrical events as musically thrilling, and my DVD player appearing to be on speed while playing this matters not a bit

Great info. Love the copyright notice. It's a HIT!
However, I did see a programme last year (?) with Davic Byrne talking about the making of Stop Making Sense and that too had to have additional bits filmed to tie it all up and does have overdubs etc. Seems to be par for the course with live shows. Wings' 'Rockshow' from McCartney's 1976 tour had such extensive dubbing that it didn't come out for a few years after the live CD by which time McCartney was said to be less happy with the soundtrack than at the start of the process! What is different about SOTT is that Prince takes this 'vanity' fixing way off the rails until it's become something funky in itself. I remember having doubts about the vignettes all the way through my first viewing (cinema) but at the end thinking 'That just set a new bar for a performance movie' Still don't know of anything that's touched it but it is kind of in a category of its own a kind of concept album live show theatrical cinema wossname. Unless you count 'Slade in Flame' BartVanHemelen said: Savage said: Will Prince have made this deal or will it be Warners getting at Prince by giving this away?
The stupidity of some fans... Yeah, it was WB who gave the LRC clip from the SOTT movie to the makers of Corvette for an ad campaign a couple of eyars ago. Oh wait, no, that was Prince whoring out one of his "children". PRINCE owns the SOTT movie. That's why it wasn't on DVD for years, FYI. Not that this is a secret, you can figure it out by LOOKING AT THE COVER OF THE VHS/DVD. Or by LOOKING AT THE MOVIE. And if you don't have it, LOOK IT UP: http://www.imdb.com/title...anycredits -- do you see WB somewhere in that list? Now let's compare that to http://www.imdb.com/title...anycredits , http://www.imdb.com/title...anycredits , and http://www.imdb.com/title...anycredits All this stupid anti-WB crap: I dare you to find a single artist who's had more leniency from his record label. Just look at all the crap the fans have had to put up with since the mid-1990s: do you think that wasn't happening before? Of course it was, except back then we didn't know about it because it stopped at his managers and/or his record company. They stopped the release of The Black Album LESS THAN A WEEK before the release on Prince's request. My god, what evil bastards. They let him out of his contract while he hadn't delivered all of the required albums -- how dare they? They took his opinion into consideration when compiling the latest Greatest Hits -- what inconsiderate assholes. They lost MILLIONS by funding Paisley park records. Warners haven't done a single thing to spite Prince, even though he has told numerous lies about them. Warners could easily have sued him dozens of times, and could have easily bankrupted him in the process. If they'd pulled all the shit that Prince has pulled on people like Levi Seacer or Margie Cox, then you'd have a point. Except they didn't, and instead it's PRINCE who's exploited artists, who's tied them to harsh contracts, who's screwed people out of money. And the fans asking for copies from the UK: WTF? Learn about PAL speed-up: this is a R2 DVD so that means it's in PAL which means there's a 2% or so speedup of the movie. And yeah, it is noticable. Sheesh, just buy the Canadian release that was sourced from a HD-master. . [Edited 9/29/07 15:44pm] [Edited 9/30/07 13:33pm] [Edited 9/30/07 13:34pm]

I think the Observer version is incredible for a freebie. Incredible colour, definition and, yes, the audio is fantastic.
It'll have to do me as there's no way I'm traipsing all the way to Canada and back just to get an extra speaker on it or something. roninja1999 said: roninja1999 said: Those late 80's gigs were awesome, and then some...

He DID do an aftershow every night. It's just some of them were more conceptual than musical. Like the one where he was just about to pick up his guitar but then felt like going for a margarita at Pizza Hut instead. That was OK but he seemed hesitant when they asked what toppings he wanted. Not a confident performance, I thought.
