The Funniest Response to a Prince Video I've Seen on YouTube

I saw this comment on YouTube as part of a thread in response to the "Fury" vide, and it almost made me vomit.

Justin Timberlake record sales aren't slumping. Nelly Furtado, Gwen Stafani, Linkin Park,Fergie, and Timberland records aren't slumping. ln fact, they are currently selling at an enormous pace! The reason for this is simple..they put out quality music and they don't attack their fanbase!

Oh my god. I thought this was sarcasm at first, but sadly it is not. It's a sad day when folks start classifying the likes of Nelly Futado, Gwen Stefani, Fergie, and Timbaland as "quality music". So, I guess we should all sit around hoping that Britney Spears reclaims her former "genius".

And for the record, forcing YouTube to remove unauthorized videos isn't "attacking your fanbase". There's a little thing called copyright law, dumbasses!

Haha, whoever wrote that must be a kid. Last time I checked the actual sales figures of people like Timberlake and Fergie etc. are the same as what would be considered vast disappointments to any major star 10 years ago with any decent record company push behind them.

Exactly. The fact that in truth Timberlake, Furtado and the like aren't actually making quality music doesn't mean Prince isn't a twat. smile

Well, if his videos weren't removed so much maybe folks would SEE his work instead of today's music.

At the cost of alienating fans! Hello?!

I can't for the life of me understand why people can't get over this shit. Don't they have a family and job and a life outside of Prince?

Well, I didn't say that I agree with his pulling his videos. (I had to whittle my original comment down to meet the 500-character limit.) Personally, I think having those old videos on YouTube do Prince more good than harm. Videos are meant to be promotional, and they can serve Prince quite well in that respect on YouTube.

But the bottom line is that the videos are copyrighted, and we really aren't within our rights to upload videos that someone else owns the copyright to. So sure, I'm disappointed that Prince videos will be pulled, but why get mad?

I remember people being pissed at Metallica for wanting their songs removed from Napster. A lot of fans said they were going to boycott Metallica because of it. But why? Is it because they think they're entitled to copyrighted songs for free? I downloaded a good bit of material from Napster, too. When they were shut down as a free site, I was bummed out, but I wasn't pissed because deep down I knew that I that I was breaking copyright law by downloading songs for free.

And that's the real problem here; we've gotten so accustomed to breaking copyright laws that we don't even realize we're doing it anymore, and don't even want to admit that it's wrong. Worse, we find ways to justify it. I read a comment on Perez Hilton where someone said "that's just the way things are and record companies and artists should just accept it". So instead of admitting that people all over the net are doing something wrong, this particular person finds a way to justify it. I know that this is where we are technologically, but advances in technology shouldn't trump artists’ rights and copyright law.

Again, I think having old videos on YouTube can work to Prince's advantage, And yes, we can be upset that Prince is pulling videos from YouTube, but what is there to feel angry or alienated over?

Exactly. Anyone who compare's Prince's work to Gwen and Justin and Timbaland cannot be taken seriously. I'm not happy but not xhocked that Prince's work isn't on the web because of stuff like this.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Thank you wlcm2thdwn! That fool ain't going anywhere. Negativity will still come from him/her and many others here on this site. Just the way it is here on the org. sad neutral disbelief.

In Boston Prince isn't heard on radio, so he isn't mainstream and considered to be an 80's act only. ALOT of people in boston don't give a pooptoast about him
typical response about prince from regular person
