biography?

I was sitting around thinking about how amazing it would be if Prince wrote an Autobiography, having seen 5 of the London gigs and realising he's still at the height of his powers as a performer/musician, I'd love to hear his side of the story! Anyway, as this doesn't seem to exist, can anyone recommend a biography of the great man? Seems like the Brian Morton one sucks, so....can anyone help?

It would be awesome if he wrote an Autobiography. I was actually thinking that the other day. I mean, it's something he really should do, so we can really get things from his perspective.
But then again, he's so secretive that it most likely won't happen.
I've looked for biographies on him, but can't find any.

I'll say this, though.
If he wanted to hire someone to write his autobiography for him, I'd take the job even if he didn't pay me. Heh, could you imagine? Me with a laptop, typing up his bio while he recording in the studio. That's another reason why he most likely won't write his own because he's too busy writing music all the time. Although he could do so during his "Bible study"...

I wouldn't mind, really cool

"Dance Music Sex Romance" by Per Nilsen, though it only covers til 1987, is the best one IMO.

i dont think Prince is the type of guy to do a biography .. he seems to value his privacy alot more than most .. an doesnt seem like the kinda guy who would wanna reveal/tell all ..

His autobiography would be horrible, self-aggrandizing and totally innaccurate. I personally would have little interest in reading something like that. the books on him that are the best were done years and years ago. I liked Poplife better than any other. DMSR was fantastic but it's slant was not so much on the man but the music. Thats great but I'm more interested in character and events in a bio, at least with Prince.

Yeah, I know, I'm not even the biggest autobiography fan, just that Prince has had such a career, it's silly I guess but would love to hear his recollections of how we wrote and recorded over the years. I guess that's the music geek in me....
For the record, if I had a choice of author for a biography I'd get David Ritz, man, his Etta James book is stunning and the Marvin Gaye one, a classic! He's so good at getting artists to open up....
Also, I don't really care if there was a whole load of bullshit in the book, I expect it and would probably enjoy it more for it's flamboyance. If anyone's a Jazz fan out there and read Charles Mingus' Beneath the Underdog, they'll know what I mean. It's almost impossible to believe anything he says, and loads of it isn't even pertinent but, man, that's one great read!
Thanks for all your help though everyone,
Have a great weekend,
Dallas

Exactly.... I can only imagine him write a story about a boy named Prince galloping in the woods one day, came upon a tree, tied the horse to the tree and start to describe the tree....! omg razz lol

I just finished reading Patti Boyd's auto biography about her life with George Harrison, then Eric Clapton. As beautiful as she was, both men slept around with others, and Clapton had poor table manners. There were tidbits about the Stones and other famous people from that era.
Therefore, the best bio would be from an ex, who was around during his most creative period.....girlfriend or wife. wink
P won't come clean.

I read an article on the Telegraph site earlier today which mentions a new Prince book being written.

'Novelist Matt Thorne is writing a critical study of Prince to be published by Faber'
