Let me paint the picture for you.

So i'm rollin' down street lookin' for some hunnies, and i'm kicked it to "Diamonds and Pearls" and track 8 is coming to a close. I grab the cd case, and flip the case to see what the next track will be, and with horror struck look on my face. eek and with a panic in my shaking hands i reach for the skip button, whew I skip'd track 9.

I like the start where its all quiet then there's some random noise and someone says "The hell was that?" giggle

Jughead
Daddy Pop

There's quite a few actually, but those 3 are the most embarrassing ones.

I was thinking that your ears were fine, but that maybe your brain was made of mushy peas.

I've only heard of one other person say that Kiss was a shit song and that person was mentally retarded.

OK Ok just a reminder - this thread is meant to be about songs you feel less than proud of in public but that you may actually like as a er "private joy" not necessarily 'shit' songs lol

That was my point - Kiss is an embarrassing song in public, as is sodding 1999.

Well yeah - it maybe a song you like but do you feel a bit red faced listening to it loud? if yes then it counts.

I just think it's a bit kitsch and self-indulgent, particularly the extended mix. Prince has done far better, and has always released better music when he's at his weakest and most humble.

It wasn't kitsch 21 years ago when released - in fact, many others had only just started copying such a stripped-down sound (started in the mainstream with When Doves Cry) when it was around (think Terence Trent D'Arby's Wishing Well as a prime example).

And the self-indulgent point is moot - for such a "bare" song, he's hardly languishing in 10-minute guitar solos, or masses of studio trickery, notwithstanding the fact that any song that is a one-man studio effort is, by its very nature, a true out-pouring of the self. (which, of course, is not to say that it is self-indulgent)
...we have only scratched the surface of what the mind can do...

Okay, fair point. My main gripe though is people's reactions when it comes on - I think that's what has made me sick of the song! lol

theres a few i think some of the 90s stuff like the talking at the begiing of NEW POWER GENERATION ..have dated badly ..even though i like that song alot. it just starts a bit like TURTLE POWER by the TEENAGE MUTAN NIJA TURTLES ofcourse ha

an i see i aint alone on DIAMONDS AN PEARLS ..well its good! . the production .the music .the vocals ect are real good .. but lyrically he done better on neraly all of his songs ..so lyrics make me cringe a tiny bit
whenever i want to hear some new music ...i make some - prince '99'

I was playing his "Ultimate" album and the long version of "Let's Work" came on and I realized that I shouldn't have played that in a workplace with college kids as the main listeners. I was a bit emberrassed.

Graffiti Bridge. It's so 'never ending story' but the gospel in it carries me through. I know that virtually all my friends would hate it but I enjoy it. I know there is something wrong with me but I just love it when he flies in the face of 'cool'.

Tell you the truth though, I feel like I have been trying to help people 'get' Prince since I was a kid. When I was growing up everyone liked Nirvana and The Smiths (don't get me wrong I like them too) and had very little idea about the musical depth in his work in terms of influences and references.
Those people would often say "but I like 'Kiss' or 'Sign 'o' the Times'.
I just want to say BUT THERE IS SO MUCH MORE!

man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81
