The movie itself on the dvd is the exact same version as the video already on the market. The quality is excellent, but for some reason it appears darker then the video.

The DVD besides being to dark has some cool extra features and being able to skip song to song is probably worth the money you will spend.

It's a bootleg, if that bothers you.
This also means that it was taken from the exact same video tape that you probably already have (Maybe sourced from LaserDisc, but probably not).

Ask a friend with a Macintosh to copy your tape to DVD-R.
Same outcome, but it will only cost $5.
If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

You won't have the menus or the chapters either. Plus there is no way that you are going to get the same transfer. Absolutely NO WAY.

Even if you were to buy a video tape and play it for the first time it probably wouldn't look as clean and then you would have spent $20 for the video.

Actually, menus and chapters are a no-brainer with the free Mac programs iDVD and iMovie. There are PC programs to do this as well.

It sounds like the bootleg transfer is pretty shitty.
My SOTT transfer to DVD looks damn good for an mpeg transfer. The boot guys had to have used mpeg codec as well.

That darkness that you and others have described could have been adjusted digitally. The bootleggers probably adjusted it only on a computer monitor. This would make it darker when played back on a CRT television.
