i am unable to land on this non-funk, cheesy piece of uninspired jehovah-rock

and that is keeping it positive for me

I LOVE this album - as I have griped in other places of the site I missed the actual concert and 02 sent me my free CD.I love it. Its on when I drive to work and I sing it on the tram (much to the disgust of those sitting next to me who think I am nuts) Somewhere here on Earth is very touching I find - I am relating to it at the minute!! Just love it...

Wow shocked
Still alive?
Glad I'm still getting responses here.

I think its pretty evenly divided. Half the people like it, half the people hate it. Can't say I'm too surprised, but that's cool.
This is probably true with any of his albums with a wide number of genres, but how much you like I guess depends on what you like to hear.

A few of the least praised tracks are Lion of Judah, Future Baby Mama & Chelsea Rodgers (well, I think that's pretty popular, I'm just not crazy about it).
The bible reference in "Lion of Judah" loses me nearly every time, but I'm warming up to the song all the time.
"Future Baby Mama" seems to have an 90/10 hate/love ratio. I'm one of the few that likes it a lot. Can't say why, maybe cuz its just b4 "Mr. Goodnight" and it has that R&B vibe that I think he's really in element when he does it. (And "Mr. Goodnight, of course. That's like cloud9 4 me)

Thanx 2 DreamyPopRoyal for starting this thread, and keeping PE alive.

eye simply adore this album ever since eye first picked it up for free. eye have every album he ever released and of all the releases in the past 10 years, eye have played this more than the others, no stop since release, second most played album was 3121.

eye think it is amazing 46 albums into his career Prince can create such a wonderful album and receive rave reviews ( rolling stone : 4 stars ).

My fav is PE and the highlight of the whole tour ( 7 main shows and 5 aftersows) was the performance of PE on opening night - awesome.

on a personal note, my sone aged 6 and daughter aged 4 LOVE the album, always want it played in the car and know the words to chelsea rogers, one u wanna c, guitar, and PE. 4 me this makes it xtra special.

long live PE - a master piece !!

aww, thanx.
Can't believe u guys are still posting here. That's great news 4 me. (My other threads are being ignored).

I just listened through Parade for the first time. A really fun album. I was thinking that its fun nature kinda reminded me of some of Planet Earth's tracks (although they just might be more contagious than "Girls & Boys" and "Life can be so nice")...
Other than each Parade track building up from the next, both albums are a lot of fun and I think Parade is just plain magical.

Would you guys put these 2 together and say they're similiar?
Or am I way off base? (only heard it thru once, so i really don't know yet)

Just had another thought on a couple of songs from PE, can't remember which one just yet...
Gotta listen to it first!

FBM ...
Somehow I'm thinking that he's comparing his past love with his future love in this song. Not just because of the title but... At first I thought that it was another twisted song (sorry, don't mean to keep saying that about his beautiful songs) because during the speaking part he talks about money, flaunting and jealousy, like that's what every woman is about! Hmmm...Me thinks that he may be laying the cards on the table and trying to air out some bad feelings he had with "Cinderella". After he lays it out for FBM, he wants to know what she thinks about that, "so what you gonna do?" he says.

He redeems himself in the end though when he says to Future Baby Mama, "I Love You". (My most favorite-ist part for me!)

*****

The One U Wanna C ...
(Gotta stop saying bad things bout Prince, you can see I have such a small mind sometimes and keep saying he's twisted, but...) Again, I thought hey, trying to buy love, don't he want her to C him and not the money? That may be a point!

He's not the first to tell her that she's a pretty thang, and she's heard it before from guys not worth the time and who are looking for one thing, until he comes along. He recognizes that she does not want to be just another passing girl, but he's saying that he's serious about his intentions towards her. So if she doesn't want another unfulfilling relationship, he can provide a real relationship for her!

Ahhh... I may be starting to get it... Uh,,hello!

(And you gotta slap me if I question his psyche again)

Ok, well, this is what Prince taught me, NOT TO BE SO SHALLOW AND JUMP TO CONCLUSIONS BEFORE I FULLY UNDERSTAND WHAT IS SAID! He put me in my place!

Twisted, huh? Nah, I'm just kidding. In his own little way, (ahem little), he is. Just like I know that he's "weird" as many people seem to think he is. I just got my education, they didn't, so they don't know what they're talking 'bout.

That's some pretty deep stuff. I haven't even gotten that far with the album yet. I think I've only heard it thru 6 times... but what you say makes a lot of sense.
It's funny. After decided to shelve the album after three listens so the novelty doesn't wear off, I had a dream with him in it. We were on a street corner. I was looking out into the intersection and he was behind me, lurking around I guess. He then asked, "You gonna c me in London?" I said I couldn't...
But I woke up and I'm like, "He said London just like that in that song... maybe I should listen to it again"

but I didn't... at least for another few weeks.

Ok, this will be the last time I'll be listening to it for a while.

PE takes me a minute or two to get into anymore, but once he breaks into that instrumental break in the middle... he has me. His guitar is just so amazing sounding and so alive. Like I hadn't heard in any of his recent albums.

Guitar is fun from start to finish, got me tapping my foot. Lyrics are okay... but so what? I love the way he sings it, full of personality and he's having so much fun with it.

Somewhere here on Earth is simply beautiful. Sophisticated & Classy. Wonderful falsetto and great piano work. Need I say more?
The one u wanna c is another fun song that I love singing along 2.

Future Baby Mama is sweet R&B, but love the speaking segment & his sexy voice. Then "Mr. Goodnight" had me cloud9... love it to death. "All the midnights"... I dont think i was listening 2 half the time, but I hate 4 the vibe 2 end.

Chelsea Rodgers was pretty good... but I'd place it somewhere else on the album to continue the vibe from the last 2 songs.
Lion of Judah is also a really good song that could connect well with tracks 6 & 7.
Resolution, I had in my head, so the whole reason I picked the album up again was cuz of it. Good song... but I hate for the album 2 end.

It's such a good ride. cool But it's time to shelve it again for a while so I can get to some other albums I haven't heard yet.

hey! you resurrected my thread! giggle

Well, I'm on a diff. album right now.
But I tell ya, it's hard to stay away from PE sometimes. Once the title track gets in my head, it's hard to resist thinking up all of the tracks that follow.

Maybe in a few weeks I will return, but last I checked, this album is still awesome biggrin wink
