No doubt: Under the Cherry Moon.

Artificial and artistic are one in this movie. Michael Ballhaus did a very good job shooting the movie. I love the screwball comedy dialogues between Kristin and Prince, I love the artificial b/w design. Nothing in this movie really tries to be taken seriously. The movie shows the way it works all the time. It's an artistic and highly ironic fairytale (it even starts with "once upon a time"). And that aspect reminds me of european romantic literature. Ever read ETA Hoffmann? No? Do it.

And I - as being german- can't get enough of P in the bathtub drowning that boat with his outcry "fashist". Great scene. Love it.

under the cherry moon hands down is the best prince movie ever, it had the most artistry, it was really a film, great acting, the only thing is for me, i understand he was a gigaloo or whatever, but the clothes! O but i love his look during this time period, but i have argued if it was appropiate for this movie, but christopher tracey was a character, so overall it does it for me!

Love purple rain too, but it just wasn't that great, but for the time period it was fantastic, so i agree it does look dated, but the soundtrack really is what made it!

1. Sign o The Times...I don't care whatchall say this was a movie since I saw it 1st in a movie theater. This movie rocks and only made me wish Prince brought that tour to the states. You Europeans were lucky mf'rs to get to see that one in the flesh!

2. Purple Rain...it has NOT aged gracefully but nothing can take away from the awesome music and Apollonia's boobs. Morris was funny as hell too.

3. Under the Cherry Moon...c'mon people...this was NOT a good movie. Prince's acting is horrible (that scene in the beginning when he is staring into the camera trying to hypnotize that girl...cringeworthy!). BUT it did have some decent scenes ("you did it with Mary's mom!! you did it with Mary's mom!!!) and of course the music saved it completely. I remember seeing it back in the day and thinking the BEST scene was (and still is) the Mountains video during the ending credits.

4. Graffiti Bridge...PURE CRAP!

All if his so called 'movies' are pretty damn horrible. I mean, if we weren't Prince fans, we wouldn't be caught dead watching 'em.
Purple Rain is ok, but UTCM and GB are just horrible crap.

At last! A voice of reason.

Being a Prince fan always mean having to say you're sorry about his movies...

"Purple Rain" is definately my favorite. The music was great, the clothes was great, the story was great. It's just an all around classic.

"Under The Cherry Moon" could have been a really great movie if the music had been better and if it had been filmed in either Minneapolis or maybe New York instead of Paris. Paris looks so damn dull and depressing and a lot of the music from the soundtrack fit the dull and depessing look of the city. The storyline for the movie was great though and far better than the "Purple Rain" storyline.

As for "Grashitty Bridge", that one was absolutely horrible all the way through and a complete embarassment.

man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

The original book was a best seller. I want to say Alice Walker wrote it, but she was responsible for "The Color Purple Rain", which was what Prince's first movie was based on. I think Oprah liked it enough to make it a 'must read' or something like that. If I can find the cover, I'll scan it in.

Graffiti Bridge only because of Morris....Prince acted and dressed like a woman. The only thing missing was lipstick and false eyelashes.

I'll have to watch it again.....there was good talent: George Clinton, Tevin, Rosie. etc. It's too bad Morris didn't pursue an acting career.

I know I'm late with a reply to this but : Is that what he was on?? lol I always thought it was a carpet..man I feel dumb. Loved the sombraro! lol I love the song though. Saw the video the other day on daily motion (before he took all his video's off the web mad )

But I'll have to say here for me its UTCM. The cinamotography was great to me..and Prince and Jerome where soo corny and funny. I could watch it today and still laugh at it.
