The Obnoxious Minority

Bonjour,

The larger silent prince community doesn’t have a say on prince.org which is a shame because we're getting a truncated view of what we ALL really think of prince, his music, persona and business dealings. What I mean by that is that there is probably an overwhelming majority of people who visit the org but never post anything because they lack the confidence and most certainly the English proficiency to do so on a regular basis. I think that many of us have confined ourselves whether we like it or not to believe (or at least perceive) to be true the real thinking of the "Prince fan" on this org based on a couple of hundred members. Just an example if you will. In Paris we were about 200 at the sound-check for the Zenith & Bataclan show which means that probably 100 of us were npgmc members. I think about 6 people from Paris post to prince.org regularly. 6%... What do 94% of the others think of Prince, his music, his club, etc...? I think I’m safe in saying that it is more or less the same in other countries save perhaps for of course U.S., England, Holland, and other "bilingual" countries. The Japanese fans are another example; I don’t think I’ve seen a single review for the ONA tour in Japan on the org. Do they care less? Probably not, but I’m not sure they feel comfortable detailing the events in half hazard English.

Apparently Prince thinks that what we say here on the org is important. He has in the past and present answered our wants, qualms and protests in one way or another. Should he though? I mean if we only represent 5 to 15% of all fans, should he care? He does, because he probably thinks that fans are like sheep who follow the leader. This is why he’ll continue to take the org seriously even though we’re the loud and most certainly the obnoxious minority.

Take care,

bz

...isn't it strange? I like it loud and obnoxious.
But there's alot of silent beauty too. Criticism does not always have to be a negative thing.
I like your views. My hamster persona wreaks havoc, but if you read between the lines; you'l find a person that is in deep awe of Prince's musical prowes.
Just not ALL of it. THat is why the site has this beautiful line attached to it (see top right corner)

I think most people just like his music.

We are the weird bunch to obses over his music so much.
The typical thread should inform you enough.

I consider it my task to enlighten you all with whimsical nonsense to remind you that Prince is fun, but not all.

On the other hand; this is a Prince site, so...

Let's obsess.

Some folks at ONA live behind me were part of the club but thought everythging was all roses...they probably had NPS in their car-cd player as well. In actuality they were club members and only that..they didn't know much about the online community, the org etc. They knew of it but I dont believe they were active, and I suspect most Prince fans and club members are of the same ilk. They are not as in deep with Prince and the net as we here are. So this means that most of the members are oblivious to the inner workings, faults, mis-steps etc of Princes' machinery. Hell, someone told his ass to play Strollin during the soundcheck so you just know most Prince fans do not have a clue. So while he hears a few complaints loudly, for the most part, we are simply an irritating rebellion against his death star. But remember..those rebel forces were small, yet very significant. Yeah he hears us..just like Horton heard a friggin who (please who said that here recently--I need to give you some dap-praise for that one), and just like it took that one lil baby in Who-Ville to say "Yap!" for the others to hear so Who-ville didnt get destroyed, folks who are dissatisfied SHOULD be able to state their concerns or complaints. The Obnoxious Minority?. That is somewhat unfair because I take it that means that some are loud in their complaints etc. But look and see that those who are also complaining etc or are critical of some of his works, are ones to sit here in P-Org and praise MANY of his songs, movies etc. He gets much credit form the so called obnoxious minority..I mean shit..look back at the threads..they are full of praise about his songs, output, artistry and musicianship. Obnoxious we are, obnoxious there is...but not only to complain...MANY have tested and are currently testing positive for the funk!

I am a member (a happy one), an orger (happy also even if people always complain about anything!) and I get along with it...

Well, some first language English speakers here who can type and read in English many times don't comprehend what they're reading either, so...

But I do get the gist of your whole post. Prince.org doesn't represent all Prince fans, nor does it even represent all those Prince fans who happen to be connected to the internet. But I wish some of those who aren't confident would find some confidence to do so. There are already at least a couple of fans who post here regularly whose first language isn't English. I don't remember anyone giving them a hard time, but then again I don't read every thread. I understand their skepticism. But the sharks here are baby sharks, not full grown Great Whites, as you'll find elsewhere on the net.
This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.
