the" black album" by name NEVER existed-prince released an album with NO name and a black cover with only a cat no.(in peach) of WX147-back in december 87 the media coined the phrase"the black album" if you have that origianl--congrats your a very rich man!!!! it was officially released by WB in 95 what i have is a tape. it has nothing on an all black cover except for the peach colored WX147. believe what you want. i listened to it in my car yesterday and re-looked at the case itself to make sure that i hadnt mis-spoken on this thread. and i havent. AGAIN, what you're debating is the TIMING. IF you have said tape, WHEN did you acquire it? It wasn't before '94, i'd wager. http://www.facebook.com/p...111?ref=ts

So this is the kind of rubbish that passes for writing these days? It reads like something you'd find on some high schooler's blog..."play Vegas like he’s Wayne friggin’ Newton or somebody? Too fuckin’ rich!". Wow, like, totally awseome writing, dude! Did someone actually pay this idiot to write this adolescent twaddle? I guess you shouldn't expect too much from a world in which Adam Sandler is revered as a comic genius and Kanye West is called an "artist". Bring on the asteroid, Lord, its time!. [quote] And the young audience who used to rock out and get all sweaty-either horizontally or vertically-to the man’s music have gotten older too, are probably railing against the performers their kids listen to now. ("Turn off that goddamn Hannah Montana! It’s the devil’s music!")
WTF is this shiznit!?!?!?!?!? If these people are telling their kids that Hanna Montana is the devil and they once were into Prince or still into to Prince it's something seriously wrong with them. Besides aren't you supposed to know what real music is? Then why are your kids listening to that stuff? I'm sure Per Nilsen states The Black Album was only available (originally in 1987) on vinyl... and I'll take his word over any "Ooooh I've got an original Cassette/CD!!!" post here or anywhere. So unless you gotsta a spankin' LP with a particular number on it, stop dreamin'.
Bob George gets my vote. Where I get my username from, heh. Excellent dark, and funky. "B.O.B. spell the shit backwards what it say..... same motherfuckin' shit!" Turn it out.

Don't know officially, but the style of play is definitely Princely. I've always regarded it as him. Otherwise, it would be Levi, but it just don't sound like him. ...we have only scratched the surface of what the mind can do...

If you read the article (please read before over-reacting) is clearly states that ORIGINALLY the album was only available as a bootleg on vinyl. there were tons of cassettes that were made (usually bad copies of someone taping it from vinyl). YEARS LATER, it was released as a cd on Warner. good god, anytime some of you purple sheep sense any kind of criticism, you go on the attack. I thought it was me. Back then, I don't think I even knew what a CD was! Yeah, the way I remember it, it was an impossible to find vinyl record and everyone had a half-assed, smudged up, badly-labeled cassette tape "tHe BlAck albuM" that hissed and cracked and warbled like a mo'fo. It was gold. Talking about tone-deaf rappers and calling himself a "skinny mutha-f**er with a high voice", Prince made a rekkid that was indeed a bitch. I should get the re-released CD version because soon enough cassette tape players will go the way of the 8-Track... Some people tell me I've got great legs...

cant say i agree with you about this article, although it is a bit sketchy, it is still an interesting read and brought back a few fond memories. I think I ended up with more copies of the black album than any other prince album. BTW that is an incredible Prince CD collection you have, was stunned looking at it today. Well done If it were not for insanity, I would be sane.

Sheesh. No, it doesn't say that. It says: A vinyl-only, eight-song funk free-for-all, it was supposed to be Prince’s big fuck-you to those who thought the Minneapolis kid was going too soft after the commercial success of Purple Rain.
No mention of the word bootleg anywhere. Don't make stuff up. ButterscotchPimp said: there were tons of cassettes that were made (usually bad copies of someone taping it from vinyl).
Pur-lease. Excellent quality dubs were circulating mere months later. It was even played on radio (Holland, Germany,...). ButterscotchPimp said: YEARS LATER, it was released as a cd on Warner.
And YEARS earlier it was on bootleg CD. Which was a straight rip from a CD that fell through the cracks. Initially, original TBA CDs were highly valued and were sold for tons of money. jonylawson said: BartVanHemelen said: Dude, per-lease. There were CRYSTAL CLEAR copies floating around pretty soon, and not from vinyl rips. At least a handful of CDs also slipped through the net. i am saying that floating around the market is twelve vinyl copies apparently NO CDS OR CASSETES escaped that pressing plant in germany. http://www.xeon-networks....a_faq.html However, in 1991 a legitimate copy of The Black Album, in CD format, sold at an auction for $11,000.00. Since 1992, other originals have turned up from time to time and are peaking their value around at $9,000.00.
http://en.wikipedia.org/w...8Prince%29 http://upload.wikimedia.o...ssing.jpeg Please explain where bootleggers got CRYSTAL CLEAR copies of TBA for CD releases if there were no CDs that had escaped? Please explain how ORIGINAL CDs were auctioned for huge sums of money, yet you claim they don't exist? © Bart Van Hemelen

So those rich fans who paid thousands of dollars for ORIGINAL CD COPIES at auctions weren't buying original items, but bad bootleg copies? Sure, whatever. Sheesh, people post PHOTOS of the damn thing and you still pretend they don't exist. © Bart Van Hemelen
