Which do you consider the best album out of these two?

Just wondering which album you guys consider his best between "Prince" and "Dirty Mind"
Personally, I prefer "Dirty Mind", but "Prince" has some amazing songs on it too.

Dirty Mind is the better (not best) of the two.

If Dirty Mind is the better of the two , but not the best of the two, does this mean maybe Prince is indeed better?

I only own Dirty Mind and only plan 2 own that one of the two.

I want my collection to have complete storylines with the main albums (none of the really obscure ones that were Internet-exclusive... well, just one), and I also want it to show off how brilliant he is as an artist and why he stands out.

I don't plan on owning the first two because there, he was just like another Stevie Wonder... he wasn't especially unique, or so I've heard.

If I do consider them at all... it won't be for a LONG time.

That's difficult. I'd say, Dirty Mind. I love the new wave feel and the first real emergence of Prince as obscene weirdo. BUT "I wanna be your Lover ", "I Feel For You", and "Sexy Dancer" are amazing pop songs, better pound for pound than anything bar "When You Were Mine" on DM.

I don't quite recall Stevie Wonder ever singing about converting a lesbian.

see... I knew this was gonna happen. It happens everytime I say "I'm never gonna get [album title]"
People were flipped out cuz I didn't want Dirty Mind or Controversy. I didn't know I'd like them this much (not to mention that there really wasn't anything 2 really worry about as far as content... heh, I mean "Dirty Mind"... ur mind wanders based on the title).

I want to get all of the official releases for whatever "storyline" in his life I have going. Like in the 80's, I want everything from when he first got attention (Dirty Mind) to the ULITMATE album of the time (SOTT).

And of course, I want his life's story as prince from start to finish with more or less, the essiential pieces. I got one another album from the era that's a bit obscure just cuz I found it easily.

And then there's all of his current material since he "made his comeback".

That's my overall plan. If I become a completeist, I'll just become super-obsessive with having every last piece of music he ever wrote. And I don't want to become that kind of person (cuz I've been there b4 and it's not a good look for me).

sigh this is a thread all its own, but it's gonna be full of negativity cuz people'll keep telling me to get these albums cuz they're really good, etc, etc.

gimme a break, guys. I've gotten 15 albums over 6 months... I'm done for a while... I just want to complete the storylines I've already started.

And if I want more, it'll be a while down the road when I suddenly get curious about "what happened before this" or "what happened in-between this and this"
More or less, I've gotta slow down... cut myself off really... until Christmas. I haven't stopped since I started in mid-March, haven't gone a month or two w/o getting another.

I Never thought you would get "Dirty Mind"
A couple of weeks ago you weren't interested in the early albums at all!

Maybe ... in a few years ... we'll agree about the brilliance of Dirty Mind / 1999, and you've forgotten about the 90's ? lol

Actually, a little while b4 I "disappeared," I asked someone from here to burn that and Controversy for me... and I got them in the mail a day or 2 after our computer fried. (we're talking back in mid-June, so it's more than a few weeks ago)

Curiosity got the best of me, I guess. I saw Prince of Paisley Park a few times already and they kept saying that "Dirty Mind" was when he starting to get attention. I figured "It's unavoidable, I have to get it to see for myself"... plus Controversy would be a good companion for it (and 1999, which I hadn't gotten just yet, but was planning on for some time).

I didn't forget about the 90's, don't worry. I own a bunch of 90's albums already. [D&P, prince, Come, TGE, Rave Un2 the Joy Fantastic & one more "obscure" album]. I've spent little time with D&P and the last two, I haven't touched at all. But I love prince thru TGE, just so u know.

Okay, so I take it that most of you were born in the 80's and I'm not saying that there is anything wrong with that. But, PRINCE is definitely much hotter than Dirty Mind. I absolutely love them both, but Prince has some truly unforgettable cuts. I beg you to listen again and you will be mesmerized by songs like "It's Gonna Be Lonely". Bambi rocks! I really could go on.Yeah, I know DM has the title track (one of my faves) and Sister and you can even feel the natural progression of his style, but Prince really showcases even the earliest degree of his talent and is probably the main album that really pulled in my generation (not old, just a 70's kid) even though we had For You (which I was really into, but had no business listening to).

It's not about being a completist, I just don't understand your reasoning. Like this:

I want to get all of the official releases for whatever "storyline" in his life I have going.

Storyline in his life, you have going? Ehm?! What?

this is a thread all its own, but it's gonna be full of negativity cuz people'll keep telling me to get these albums cuz they're really good, etc, etc.

This is a thread about which album you prefer. You have never heard "Prince". So, how can you contribute to this topic? It's not about negativity, you don't have to buy, listen or do anything on my account. What I'd like is for people to stay on topic (then again, this is prince.org lol ) and make sense.
