Overdubs or tapes

the Live CD set has plentiful overdubs apparantly, does he use any tapes/DATS on stage for production type stuff?

basically I'm asking for opinions on both overdubbing on live recordings and/or the use of backing tapes when performing live.

Personally, I dislike the thought of overdubs on live recordings and as for tapes? the odd special effect is OK but when does it cross the line? when the drummer plays over loops?
