The "Come" album. I have collected a lot of Prince's BIG albums from his career...but not so much the nineties material.
The only albums I have from the nineties are "Diamonds and Pearls", "Symbol" and the "Gold Experience" "Come" is one album I tend to overlook for some reason. I've seen it at a good price on the net. Is it any good?

Prob my 3rd fav from the '90s -- great album
I'd even say it's a concept album -- the whole album has a certain vibe throughout. Pretty cool. Definitely worth checking out! A lot of these songs are not what you'd typically expect from Prince. I just don't think he showed much class with the Vanity cameo at the end.

If u like the Gold Experience, you'll like this, they're from the same era. Worth it for 'Pheromone' [Edited 9/13/07 5:21am] 3121... Don't U Wanna Come?

Whereas I think it's a great album and it sounds fantastic (actually warm and balanced), I don't think you should get this album. Judging on what you have of the nineties, I think Rave or Emancipation (cheap!) would suit you better.

Rave is shit... Emancipation is mostly shit Come has more songs that'll stick, honestly...

One of my faves from the 90s -- and in my top tier overall. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

CalhounSq said: Emancipation is mostly shit Come has more songs that'll stick, honestly... Hi Calhounsq! Read the first post again: speedy72 collected all the big albums, and so far only D&P, and gold of the nineties. No matter what your (and mine) preferences are, Emancipation and Rave are the nineties albums for Speedy72. However, speedy72, if you haven't got musicology or 3121, you're even better off with those...

I highly recommend all of the 90s albums except Kamasutra. The others all have great moments. Come is one of my top favorites from the 90s. It reminds me of "the Black Album" in a lot of ways (maybe because the album is kind of dark). **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

I found "Come" for only 9.99 @ FYE.
And to date, that's the cheapest album I got that was brand new (got ATWIAD used for only $7.99). I say yeah! Of course get the album. It'll at least complete the storyline u have going on. Mixing and matching its songs with and TGE's material is also an interesting take on his 90's output. I tried that once and some of the songs just go together so well. But I know 4 a fact that "Race" was written during 's time... while Shh, Endorphinmachine and Dolphin were meant for "Come", so if u like those already, you'll definitely like the album. I know it's one of my favorites. It's a very tight project and I wouldn't take out any of the songs unless I was just playing a handful of them. Orgasm is optional, I suppose, but I still keep it in cuz it just works. Just for Space, Letitgo, Loose! and Pheremone, I'd definitely get it. [I haven't fully determined how I feel about D&P yet, but it's probably the weakest of the 90's... at least that I'm remotely familiar with. Rave, I don't really have a clue on cuz I've only heard it once, so I can't say 4 sure either way] had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone

Come and Gold in many ways need to be together. Alot of music was created at the same time. Could have been a double album. If I remember correctly an idea had been to have Come be a Prince CD and Gold be a both released at once.
So you should get them if you can. I think they are out of print too. Come and Gold. Black and Lovesexy Lots of pairings with Prince albums.

I didn't really "get" Come at first. I mean, it was fine, but nothing jumped out at me. Someone suggested listening to it and TGE back2back... I never did that, but listened 2 them pretty close 2 one another... TGE didn't really help me understand Come... but actually the other way around since Shh, Dolphin, & Endorphinmachine were meant for Come... so thanx to Come, I like "Endorphinmachine" and it used 2... just not work 4 me. I do pairings with albums when I'm listening thru them. Dirty Mind & Contoversy worked well... and so did 1999 & Purple Rain. had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. With that said, many people here (myself included) say that this album is "a grower"... you might need to spend a little time with it b4 u get just how amazing it is. But trust me, once you get it into, it'll be a hit nearly every time (I have a 95% success rate with it) had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone

Those are brilliant, too! "Warm and balanced" is a good description of his 90s sound in general. Plus his 90s mixes are loaded with ear candy...it makes for great headphone music! Just say "NO" to cow mucus consumption!

Heh, I think I really get the most out of it when I do use headphones. And... I don't think I ever listened to it without headphones. But I get bent out of shape when I'm in the car with my family and they have music blasting so I have to turn my headphones up to hear him. I have that problem with his 90's stuff, which I really like to be able to hear. had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone

It's in my top 4 along with TGE, 1999 and Purple Rain. I'm just not sure of the order. I own 15 albums and am VERY familiar with about 11 of them. Oh yeah... and Planet Earth & round out my top 6. But there's something very special about Come that I rank it very highly... I mean, it rivals TGE because I've had a lot more good experiences with Come. You don't necessarily have to be in the mood for it (with TGE, I kinda have to be in the mood for it or it just doesn't work) . had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. I would easily reccomend the "Come" album from 1994. Alot of critics and fans didn't like it but so what! I think Come was awesome!!! Come is a very dark, sexual, spiritual, and after hours kind of record. It has a very gloomy overcast and nocturnal vibe to it. It's kind of like the Black Album from 1987, but the difference is where The Black Album had some humorous and playful moments on it,Come is a pretty serious and somber affair. It's great rainy day Prince music. Listen to it late at night with dim lights,or cuddling or fooling around with your man/woman and you'll dig it guaranteed!
Here's a track by track rundown... 1. Come -very funky sexual nice jazzy horns, crisp beat, a 10 minute long jam! Nice Miles Davis sounding trumpet on it, probably Atlanta Bliss! 2. Space- a cool exuberant breezy RNB track, icy cool vocals 3. Pheromone- Best song on the album IMO, disturbing lyrics about peeping and sexual fetishes, slammin' funky beat, dig that harpsichord riff, it's wicked! one of the darkest most menacing tracks Prince has ever recorded for sure. 4.Loose!- the hardest hitting track, hard pulsing synth, and a crisp thumping techno beat, awesome! Very loud and energetic! 5. Papa- dark bluesy acoustic song about child abuse (probably about his childhood) Makes you think of an autumn September day, breezy wind crunchy leaves, cold air, angry/sad/tired/defeated Papa... 6. Race- funky beat good song about race relations "face the musiicAH!" 7. Dark- good RNB song with jazzy horns and gospel sounding vocals nice gentle horns. One of Prince's most charming throwaway tracks. 8. Solo- This is proof (if one ever needed any) that Prince has some pipes! It's just him and a harp singing a poem. Beautiful sounds like opera. I love the part when he sings about the angels watching him and his lover and the harps and the thunderstorm clouds, dreamy meditative. Nice sound effects 9. Letitgo- nice oriental sounding melody from the horns funky beat, Prince singing about moving forward with his name change to the symbol and leaving behind the "Prince" era of his career. 10. Orgasm- this isn't really a track, just noisy electric guitar, and some girl moaning while Prince "pleasures" her. P.S. I LOVE the picture of Prince with the cain in front of the church gates! It looks so EVIL and WICKED! That would have been a great promotional pic to use for the Batman soundtrack back in 1989. It just fits Tim Burton's dark, dreamy, gothic mood. Come & The Truth are his best 90's albums
Pheromone, Solo and Let it Go are some of the best tracks he has ever recorded period. Unlike alot of his 90's work, Come and The Truth have aged quite nicely.
