No One Ever Talks About Batman Soundtrack

In my opinion I thought that was a pretty cutting edge album...hence my name razz

The way he interlaced phrases from the film into the music was genius. The biggest hit on that album hardly had lyrics. And personally I think Lemon Crush is super sexy.

Anyways, was just listening to it so I thought I'd share. Let me know your thoughts.

Honestly I love the Batman Soundtrack. It's one of my favorites too. Why nobody talks about it? Beats me. lol
Some people think I'm kinda cute
But that don't compute when it comes 2 Y-O-U.

BATMAN & Graffiti Bridge was full of songs that probably should have been released in '86 or '87 maybe in some cases even earlier. Even tho I can sit thru a listening of both CDs but they make wonder what was P doing at that time that he couldn't or wouldn't give us something new. When I make various Prince Classic cds, the only songs I use from those cds R Scandalous, Electric Chair, Thieves In The Temple, Joy In Repetition & The Question U and the B-sides I Love U In Me & Feel U Up. Not saying the other songs aren't jams but I never really listen to them.

I really appreciate this album. The first half of the album includes the brilliant "The Future" (one of his best post-Lovesexy songs, IMHO), "Electric Chair," "Partyman," and the sublime "Vicki Waiting." The second half kind of fades in comparison to the first, but "Trust" has its moments, "Scandalous" is a vintage Prince slow jam, and "Batdance" is full of nice licks.

It's weighed down a bit by "Trust," which is enjoyable enough, but doesn't really do it for me, the corny "Lemon Crush," and the schlocky "Arms Of Orion," which is one of Prince's worst songs this side of "Baby."

I really enjoyed the stripped down, minimalist vibe of the album; in that respect, it's reminiscent at times of 1999 and Controversy. I agree with you VickiWaiting, it's not appreciated enough.

That really wasn't a new innovation. Queen had done much the same thing, years previously.

The last Prince album to feature more than two B-Sides which weren't remixes, alternate versions or edits - but completely new songs! neutral

200 Balloons
Feel U Up
I Love U In Me
Sex

William Orbit and Mark Moore's remixes of Batdance, The Future and Electric Chair are his best dance remixes if you ask me.

I also feel that this cd was underrated. It's one that I listen to quite frequently. I love Vickie Waiting, Electric Chair, Partyman, Batdance, among others.

"If a man is considered guilty for what goes on in his mind then give me the electric chair 4 all my future crimes, y'all."

"I saw ur friend first, that's who I danced with, all the time I was watching u"

Good stuff. nod

It's a cool album. I was still in high school at the time and my tastes were still forming, so all Prince stuff was pure genius to me. Back then I absorbed his music with an open mind.

I even thought "Arms and Orion" was a nice song. Dedicated it to my then girlfriend. That's how naive I was.

Shhhh everyone, the reason we cannot talk about the Batman soundtrack is Prince's lawyers have contacts, one being Batman himself. We chat about this WB release, Bat signal lights up the sky and heads roll.

rolleyes thus you simply ignor the thread and not post. This is a discussion board, If there is someone willing to discuss a subject even if for the 1000th time... so damned what! No one makes people like you read thier threads nor post un-necessarily negative and pointless comments about how much a subject has been discussed.

Otherwise... because I haven't seen this talked about in awhile...

I luv the Batman soundtrack. Electric Chair, The Future, Partryman and Scandalous are among some of my fav tracks ever.

Never liked Lemon Crush or Trust too much though.

And Arms of Orion isn't as bad IMO as a lot of peeps make it out to be.

i think it deserved a grammy nomination, if not a win.
was it nominated?

i listen to it more than many other P releases. #1 it works.
it's authentic & original, more so than a few others i won't mention.

i agree w/comments above.

I can post whatever I want. This is a chat forum. I didn't say the person was stupid or the thread was dumb, I just said the album sucked. (which IMO is does) and I have seen many threads on this topic. You (or Goldilocks) don't have to read anything I write and you're not going to agree with everything I say.

I've come to like it quite a bit. It's one of Prince's most surprisngly dark albums, at least lyrically.

It touches upon Prince's duality in an interesting way, and it's pretty funky throughout. It's just a shame about the tragically poor Arms Of Orion...

Actually, the album kinda feels like the long lost sequel to 1999 in some ways.

I think that the fact Prince left it off all Hits packages speaks volumes about the fact he doesn't feel its a Prince album, however i feel thats slightly unfair. While i cant listen to it as an album (Its a soundtrack for sure) - there are a few tracks on there that are stellar Prince. The Future, Electric Chair, Partyman (written in 82 i believe), Vicky Waiting (love the guitar on this), Scandalous (classic Prince slow jam).

Electric Chair has always been a favourite and ive always thought it would work well live, but i can only recall the one time he played it (on SNL). It doesn't deserve to be left out of his consideration of his back catalogue, albeit in Hits packages or live performances. I loved the versions of Partyman he was doing last year - proved to me theres more to that album than Batman.

Wasn't Batdance only left off because of legal issues involving the film?

It was left off due 2 contracts with the batman franchise and all the royalties including jack nicholson would get.

that being said, the batman album is HOT!!! damn funky as well! electric chair still whips ass and lemon crush is funky!!!
man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

I have to go with you, I think this is a really good album. It was the first album I got (ever) so it has a nostalgic feeling. After all of these years it stills sounds fresh.
