i cannot listen to these so called "remixes" or w/e. Maybe if it wasnt for Larry and Rosie, i couldve enjoyed it. But seriously, wat was prince thinking when he released this? Prince works better on his own, this right here proves it. Anyways, i was wondering if anyone who ows this actually enjoy's it? and listens to it often?

The main problem IMO is calling it The New Master. That just invites harsh criticism by placing it in the ring with the first master.

Instead, it should've been offered up as a single download. The it would be just a variation of the original.

Prince claimed that he was going to release his WHOLE catalog in that manner. 1999:TNM showed how extremely awful that would've been.

BTW: Rosie was good in the 90/91 - she seemed to fit that NPG. And Larry Graham is an amazing bass player . . . he's just not a good frontman or singer.

I wrote this before, which pretty much sums up how I feel about 1999 TNM:

While exiting my car, the CD itself slipped out of it's case, hit the driveway play-side down and rolled around a bit. It's extremely scratched, still plays though. At that moment, I kinda shrugged and thought "whatever".

Now if that had been my only copy of 1999 (the album), Purple Rain, or SOTT, I would've been hitting the records stores for a new copy immediately.

And you're right he is talented, of course he is - he made it didnt he...but then forming a band is no measure of that - I formed a band and Im not musically talented at all. Jeez even Marky Mark had his Funky Bunch.

As for inventing Slap Bass....yep right after he invented fire, the wheel and electric I suppose.
