Suggestions for a single-disc Emancipation Prompted by this thread discussing albums you've tried to get into but couldn't, I wonder if org members could suggest an edited 12-track version of Emancipation that will really sell this album to me.
Over the years I've tried several times to get into it but have always been left rather non-plussed. There's no other album that leaves me feeling this way - hell, I even like Chaos & Disorder! Any suggestions will be greatfully received.

Congratulations, this thread has been nominated internationally as THE LAMEST THREAD OF ALL TIME. Runners up included 'Could you reduce The Koran to, like, a couple of paragraphs, please?' and 'Can I have The Beatles' White album as a 7" single?'

Well, I damn sure can't change anyone's mind about anything.
But you seem willing enough to try for yourself. Which in and of itself is quite cool to me, even if you never find anything on this album that moves you. Consider this 12-track ordering of "Emancipation" to be a loosely-based Prince story. There's the revolving frustrations, depression over lack of substance, endless partying and wild sex, anger, hate, more loneliness, contemplation through the self destruction of others, better self awareness, seemingly connecting with someone of substance, getting married, having kids, and showering his betrothed with all the meaning he can muster. 1 - In This Bed I Scream 2 - Somebody's Somebody 3 - Sleep Around 4 - Joint 2 Joint 5 - Face Down 6 - My Computer 7 - Dreamin' About U 8 - The Love We Make 9 - Soul Sanctuary 10 - The Holy River 11 - Let's Have a Baby 12 - Friend, Lover, Sister, Mother/Wife Some of it is very personal stuff. Which is probably part of the reason he finds it hard to perform now. Perhaps if the pain is still an obstacle it'll slightly change over time, because there is some terrific music here, even if it is at times lessened through the marathon that is 3 hours and 36 songs. "I'm leaving it up to you I'll do what you want to do But you got to understand You're my woman and I'm your man I can't even go for a ride Believe me, honey, I've tried Without thinking about a little baby A baby sittin' right by my side" -- Prince, "Let's Have A Baby", 1996 **I need help!** [Edited 9/7/07 8:00am]

I'm thankful for my 3 disc set and, in fact, I wish he would release 3 discs of music (filled to the rim) every year.
That being said, when I first bought Emancipation I did make a single disc of my favorites (I can't remember the track listing): 01 - Jam Of The Year 02 - Somebody's Somebody 03 - We Gets Up 04 - White Mansion 05 - Sex In The Summer 06 - Curious Child 07 - Dreamin' About U 08 - Joint 2 Joint 09 - Slave 10 - New World 11 - Face Down 13 - Style 14 - Sleep Around 15 - My Computer 16 - Emancipation ....but these days I much prefer listening to the discs as sequenced. I'm still baffled at the grief he gets for his music during this period. Just say "NO" to cow mucus consumption!
