At the moment, I'd have to go with Let's Pretend We're Married... but usually it's Little Red Corvette.

The album version of "Little Red Corvette" is blah.
I was never a big fan of the track. Extended cut, I like. For me top 3 on the "1999" album are: 1.Lady Cab Driver 2.Free 3.Something In The Water ----- 4.D.M.S.R 5.1999 Kick the old school joint 4 the true funk soldiers.
1. Sign 'o' the Times 2. 1999 3. Dirty Mind 4. Parade 5. Purple Rain

I'm always gonna have some sort of "bond" with Little Red Corvette.
It kinda marked me taking my first step into officially becoming "one of Prince's people". Every song has something I like about it, so it's hard to pick a favorite. I'd say Automatic, but it gets stuck in my head REALLY EASY, so it kinda drives me nuts. Plus, there's his, ahem, sanity 2 consider when he wrote... brilliant, but the message is a bit... troubling. It's a tie, I guess, between Little Red Corvette, Automatic & Let's Pretend We're Married. had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone

Something in the Water.
Don't get me wrong, I love all of this album dearly, but SITW is the song where, no matter what I'm doing, I'll just sit the fuck down and listen.

Right now, "Free" I think is my favorite... which is kinda unusual, but then again, so is the whole idea of Prince and what he does.
There's just a hidden quality about it I can't put my finger on. Maybe cuz its message is slightly similar 2 Purple Rain... had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone

I'm also gonna have to go with Something in the Water. It's one of his proudest 80's accomplishments.
I love how Prince contrasts his utter anger with his vulnerability in lines like, "You think you're special?! ....So do I." Then those heartfelt, anguished screams where he shamelessly displays how hurt and tormented he is. It's one of his most touching, most honest vocal performances in the studio. Chilling song; a true classic... The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.
"You still wanna take me to prison...just because I won't trade humanity for patriotism."

Chilling song; a true classic... Yeah, it is. The last line says it all. "I love u, I do, or else I wouldn't... go thru all the things I do." kinda makes me feel bad 4 him, but w/e. It's one of those songs that does just that. I'm not new to that whole spiel where he plays the guilty party. I back him up 100%, had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. I love this album with my whole heart and as tough as it is, I'd have to go with Automatic. It may change in a month. Check with me then. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

haha... Little Red Corvette has that "timeless" factor about it. I still love it after... okay, 7 months isn't that long. Automatic tops my list nearly every time... but it gets stuck in my head and easily drives me crazy. Let's Pretend We're Married also has that hypnotic attraction about it and that's what I'm crazy about it... plus, I dig the video. Those are my top three right now. had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone

Currently and always has been "Lady Cab Driver." I adore the music in this song and I especially love these lines:
"Lady, I'm so lonely I know that's not the way 2 be Don't want isolation, but the air, it makes me cold Drive it, baby, drive it, drive this demon out of me Take me 2 your mansion Honey, let's go everywhere Help me girl, I'm drownin', mass confusion in my head Will U accept my tears 2 pay the fare?" The sex part of the song ("this is for" etc. etc...) kind of embarrasses me now that I'm 35, but after that there's a part that totally sounds like it's from 777-9311, which I've never paid attention to in all these years, now I want to mix both of those songs right when LCD turns starts to sound like 777-9311.

I did a quick tally of what we have so far.
Does not compute is leading with 9 votes Automatic is a close 2nd place with 7. Lady Cab Driver has 6 Then Little Red Corvette with 3 Let's Pretend we're married/International Lover with 2 1999/DMSR/Free with one each Delirious & All the Critics were left out completely. But anything can happen, I guess. I still like "Delirious" a whole lot, but it doesn't win many awards with the other powerhouse tracks here. had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone

For right now, Lady Cab Driver. Love the extended version.
Funny yesturday, Delirious was played on the radio. I've never heard this station ever play Delirious, they play lots of Prince but always, always the same songs over and over again. Got me wondering what's up, it's got to be something.

The extended version of Delirious is pretty much repetitive of the original... but all the same, I dig it a whole lot. In fact, I think I heard it a while b4 I got the album... cuz I remember something like it, but I couldn't recognize it when I got to track 3. had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. I have never listened to any of the tracks on 1999 in isolation, if i hear one i gotta hear them all, its the perfect album. Having said that Does not compute gives me chills everytime.

I used to go to a friends room in college and put Something in the Water and play it over and over because I was going through that whole song in my actual life at the time and it is still my favorite song. In fact, I may have to buy 1999 again because I was going through my cds and could find my cd. I absolutely love that album and it would be the one that if I had to only have one cd by him on a island that I would choose.
