Prince's great or fun cover versions of songs from "When Will Be Paid" to "Love Is A Losing Game" to "Crazy" to even "What Have You done For Me Lately", Prince has made some covers of songs that bring out hooks and tones that were there but sometimes submerged.
I had heard the Amy Winehouse song and not thought much of it, and even heard Prince mention it as remarkable, but I didn't see why. But upon hearing an aftershow cover of it by Prince and his band, where he brought out a James Bond song type of epic feel to it, I hear so much more in the original and can see what all the fuss over Winehouse is as a genius singer/songwriter. That simple chord shift chorus hook is subtle in the original, but when it's pointed out, the way Prince did, it made it into a tremendous song for me. The bounce and fun he adds to his covers of RollingStone songs, The Cars, etc... is really interesting from a producer's/performer viewpoint. the one that I DONT like however is..... Come Together. He hasn't brought out anything good for me in his version. The original is brilliant. My art book: http://www.lulu.com/spotl...ecomicskid

I'm not even familiar with the original version, but "Case of You" all the way back in 1983-4 seems very cool too. My art book: http://www.lulu.com/spotl...ecomicskid

I like his cover of Maybe your baby by stevie wonder man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81 | |
