Motorbabies!! Do You Know Your Mojo?? Many of you have seen my other thread "Calling All Motorbabies!!" When I first posted that thread I thought I was imagining things! I thought there's no way in hell I'm hearing Mojo!
This has been going on for weeks just on Saturday! Then all of a sudden, they announce they are going to PARTY for the holiday weekend with guest DJ's Gary Chandler and Wax Tax'n Dre. I listened to 105.9 Kiss Detroit for the last four straight days and I swear I heard Mojo! I had the chance to record and upload about an hour of Saturday's nights set here. If you know your Mojo, listen to it and tell me, am I straight tripping or was that Mojo?

I am truly disappointed in all of you so called Motorbabies! With or without your help I will get Mojo the respect and recognition that he deserves from Detroit!!
When I do, if you couldn't be bothered to put yourself on the line now, for the man that put himself and his career on the line, time and time again for OUR benefit, don't try to jump your ass on board then!! [Edited 9/5/07 10:27am]

I found out what happened too, though not from Mojo rolleyes After phone calls, emails, and threats of picketing, I found out that allegedly the station bought up a bunch Mojo's old mix tapes and let Gary and Wax mix them.
I still say they should have given Mojo his props because that shit was nice as hell all weekend long! I haven't felt that good about radio in twenty years. I knew that had to be Mojo. Too bad it wasn't really Mojo! Ah well I guess I can honestly say, an imitation of Mojo was better than no Mojo at all. I just knew I'd get to hear the mothership land just one more time. At any rate, I still want my Mojo!! Now more than ever! I'm still ashamed of you Detroiters! Y'all say y'all loved Mojo but y'all damn sure didn't show it! I'm glad it wasn't really him because it would have broken his heart to know that y'all can't still feel his flow! I felt it before they even went into this past weekend. It was just there! Redeem yourselves!! Let's put our heads together and get some sort of Mojo Appreciation Day, week, month hell, YEAR going! Mojo deserves it! Please let's not wait until the heartbeat stops, let's go ahead and get the man his props!! If this weekend was designed for anything it was to remind me that I owe Mojo a great deal! As does everyone else that has listened to, learned and grew from him, including YOU, PRINCE!! I know damn well, you remember when no one else would touch you but Mojo was spinning ALL of your shit!! The very reason I am still here today, hanging in there with you for going on my 30th year is because of MOJO!! I feel I've been blessed with the responsibility of making sure Mojo gets his due! I intend to make it happen! When you can't turn around without being reminded of Mojo, that'll be me, taking my responsibilities very seriously! [Edited 9/5/07 23:24pm]

Breathe, Sexy!
I listened to Mojo's show from 1984 to 1998 - and we're cooking up something amazing at Emancipation Radio, so stay tuned! If Mojo won't bring it to us, we'll just have to turn back the clock... and we haven't forgotten that sometimes, you'd have to flip the station for half an hour to listen to Mojo's competitor, The Wizard too... I hate to advertise but, here it is: Alien Transmissions: The Detroit Radio Vault Kicks off sooner than your mama thinks! Keep your headphones on.

I know damn well, I'm not crazy and the folks around my house are looking at me like they want to hide the knives! No one's been replying to me, so I've been having a one sided conversation, which is not helping me on the home front, at all! I just had to vent!! Anyhoo, I had a couple of my current, in the know, DJ friends of mine in my studio, tonight. That's how I learned about the "alleged" and yes I mean "alleged" because unless Mojo tells me that shit, himself! I'm not buying it! shit about the purchased mix tapes. They do know both Wax and Gary and they are swearing on all, they hold dearly that if it was Mojo at the studio, word would have leaked! There's still the little matter of "Mesopotamia" being played, that I know damn well, neither Wax nor Gary, would have pulled out of their asses, even on a dare, if it were from a recording but I'll deal with that, when I need to! My friends kept bringing up "The Wizard" and I swear I don't remember him! I swear that I listened to Mojo and when I couldn't listen to Mojo, I didn't listen! I'm very interested in hearing what The Wizard had to offer! Keep me posted! [Edited 9/5/07 23:59pm]

And where the hell were you listening to Mojo at from 1990 to 1998?
That's 10 whole unaccounted for years of Mojo, I'm missing!! Until a few weeks ago , I hadn't heard Mojo LIVE since 1988! When we had that chat with Mojo on Holy River, a kind soul sent me a CD that was recorded in 1990. Which surprised the hell out of me. that it even existed but I seem to still be missing 8 years of Mojo, when I needed my Mojo most! I really need those years! Any info will most assuredly be appreciated! [Edited 9/6/07 12:57pm]

As you know, After he left 96.3 in early '87, he ended up at 98.3 WTWR (Monroe, Toledo, and downriver Detroit, as their commercial says). Flash forward to Fall 1989 - One night he's on WTWR, and the very next, with no promotion at all, back home here on 92.3 WMXD. Mid 90s, he left WMXD to go back where it started, 107.5, WGPR, which didn't last very long, as by '97ish, he was on 105.9!!! (different owners back then) When 105.9 was bought out in the late 90s, they fired most of the djs, including Mojo - somehow he managed to secure a behind the scenes job. I've got some tapes of this era too... You'll be hearing them, and more.. "THE WIZARD". If anyone had the right to be called Mojo's Competition, it was this guy. He started on the OLD 93.1 and then, when Mojo left WJLB to move to 96.3, The Wizard moved to WJLB. Mojo pretty much took this guy under his wing and got his foot in the door for him in radio. Sometimes, The Wiz would be on for 20 mins, sometimes, 2 hours. You'd never know. on JLB, at first he'd be on before Mojo would come on 96.3, which was cool cuz you could listen to the Wiz, and then at 10 pm switch the station over to where Mojo was ... but then they moved the Wizard's slot to immediately across from Mojo's, at 10pm. The Wizard's Show? Imagine Mojo on HYPERSPEED. The guy would record a live mix at home, on three turntables, then bring that tape into WJLB's studio that night and mix LIVE over the tape! In a space of 10 minutes you've heard 10 songs, and layers upon layers of stuff all going at once, IN PERFECT SYNC!. He left Detroit's airwaves in 1989 when WJLB's bosses started to dictate the playlists more. His last show, which I would LOVE to get a copy of, was New Year's Eve 1989. I LOVE going back to these days and talking about them. [Edited 9/8/07 22:52pm] Keep your headphones on.

Well, I've finally got a definitive answer to the is Mojo at 105.9, I don't believe it for one second but my husband made me swear that once I got someone to answer me flat out. I'd let this go...
Anyhoo, I got in touch with Wax Tax N Dre whose real name is Andre Lackey. I asked him if Mojo was there on the weekend that I heard Mesopotamia and Flame Thrower, etc. he said... "Hey Danielle! How are you? Thanks for checking us out on the mix weekend. Well... The Big question is to be answered..... Was Mojo there that weekend.... No Maam, I grew up listening to Mojo. So, remember those jams he use to play. I had so much fun doing it. I would Love to make it happen again. I will post some of my mixes from that weekend on my website very soon. Thank you so much for listening. Mojo still lives inside of me (LOL). Have a wonderful day. Please stay in touch." I met Mojo once in Detroit back in mid-late 80s. That's when few people knew what he looked like. That was cool. He was cool -- he even paid for me and my friends McDonald's. lol
Cool to see your posts, sexy. Long live Mojo!
