Empty Room Chords

Hey, does anyone out there know the chords to "Empty Room"? I have several versions that seem to be in different keys....and even though it seems really simple I'm stuck. So far I have something like A, F, Fm, A. But the last A sounds wrong.....sorry for being so thick!!!!!
Really hope someone can help, I'm totally obsessed with this song!!!!

hey,

I saw prince play this on tuesday at the aftershow, the chords he uses are power chords

C#, A, F#, C#.. A little tip, when brings in the big chords the second time round he plays a F power chord over the first C# sharp. ie a major harmony

the solo is in C# MINOR although the melody uses both major and minor notes over the 1 st chord, hope this helped,

Dallasboner.. your first lesson is this - do not appologise for not knowing something.

Your second lesson is the chords to one of Mr Nelsons greatest compositions

it's simply the chords of C# A F#min C#

play around with the inversions of the chord in the right hand. If you are not sure what i mean by this, feel free to ask but dont label yoursel as thick! smile

yeah was there, it was slamming, he is at his peak on the guitar I think, have seen him for over 15 years, been to lots of aftershows but this was the best playing, his rythmic stuff is crazy, just so free and nailed at the same time, I absolutley loved it and it brought a tear to my eye when empty room started, my friends who came where speechless, they are serious muscians and they could really apprecaite it. enjoy youre show

Peace

Thank you and 3121 for posting! I was attending tuesday, but didn't pay attention to the chords (stupid!) You say power chords, that means a barre, right? I saw prince use his index finger mostly for the bottom three strings (with the thump over the neck).

While we're talking guitar, I tried to figure out the chords to 'Open book', but I couldn't find it. Does one of you happen to know these as well?

As a last thing, percy, since you were watching the chords. When I learned Anotherlover, I learned it as Am, C, D. Prince appeared to use other chords (making it much more rock and heavy). Did you happen to see, and remember
smile , these chords as well?

Thanks again...

Funny, I play it the same way you mentioned, you probably listen to that version from '92 (the one with just one verse)...

Hey sander,

power chords are played just using the the 3 bottom notes of the chord. when prince plays a power chord on the E string he uses his thumb 3rd and fourth fingers and on the A string he uses his is 1st 3rd and 4th, hope that makes sense.

dont know open book,

anotherlover - yes,

intro and chorus are A C D X 4 [power chords] on the last rotation he plays a C#7 after the D, like a passing chord.

verse F#M7, G#M7, A, B, E D, all 2 beats each, the first 4 chords he plays with thumb on bass note and barres the chords respetively ie m7 just barre the 4 strings mute the A string. for A and B use thumb and play major chord using the F shape underneath. E and D just play power chords on the A string.
cool.

WOW! Thanks to everyone for the chords! Amazing! I was at the 14th and 28th aftershow where Prince played Empty Room both times! the 14th was the 1st time I'd ever heard the song and I've been totally obsessed ever since, I literally cannot shake the song from my head! Glad to know it's a much loved song!
Thanks once again for your help and not making me feel like an idiot!

I think it starts with a Bmaj7[B D# F# A#] (but I think thats the same as Cbmaj7[Cb Eb Gb Bb])...

then [Bb,Eb,Gb,A)???

Percy, thank you very much for the help! I love that C#7 chord in Anotherlover!

Powerchords using your thumb is still beyond me, I can only make it work with my indexfinger.
