Chocolate Invasion and Slaughterhouse

I just got these yesterday and have been listening to them non-stop. Good Prince funk... better than Musicology, 3121 and Planet Earth for sure. I'd be happy if he release stuff like this cuz its funky!

Very good but I wouldn't say better than 3121 or Musicology. The work is very good but it all sounds like Emancipation. 3121 and Musicology have diversity in the musical styles of the songs. Vavoom, Golden Parachute and a few others are fantastic but in time you will see that 3121 will be a Prince classic right behind SOTT.

they were never "in print" in the first place.

But I know what you mean, there is no legal way of downloading these
albums at the moment.

Goddamn, I agree 100%! I recently burned a cd copy of Slaughterhouse to listen to in the car and I realised that I really like EVERY song except one! Northside, Radical Man and SM Groove are absolutely awesome! I wish he would release a commercial album filled with this much funk. And re-recorded with a live band (how much better did Guitar sound when he did that?). Throw in a Glasscutter and I think you'd surpass the black album for pure fonkiness! Those albums are unreal, I was thinking as I listened how most people aren't even aware of this stuff at all! The other day someone said to me Prince went off the rails in 1988 about they couldn't listen to him anymore. I didn't even bother to hip him to these old skool joints!

I agree - 3121 is massively under rated - some corking tracks.

Glad I have them ready to burn from something else someone was nice enough to send me but it is a shame though because it does seem they were actually full compilations of material legally downloadable at the NPG music club right??
"Why'd I waste my kisses on you baby?" R.I.P. Prince You've finally found your way back home. Well Done.

I like these albums, but don't love them.

To me, they're like official bootlegs. Like Prince releasing a collection of songs that he didn't think were good enough to release on a bona fide album to the masses, but still wanted people to hear what could almost have been.

Wish he'd do the same sort of thing more often, preferrably alongside each album officially released.

They are not better than 3121 or Planet Earth but they are better than Musicology. In fact, I wish he'd released The Chocolate Invasion instead of Musicology. There are incredible songs on there like Vavoom, Sex Me Sex Me Not, When eye Lay My Hands On U and Judas Smile. I don't care much for The Slaughterhouse but I love Peace and Silicon.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that
