Who else is getting tiresome of current day Prince?

Well, i must admit i am.

Fan since 1987, at age 13 'Sign of the Times' was the first vinyl-album i bought. The years after that i bought his entire backcatalogue.

And alltough he didnt deliver real masterpieces in the first half of the nineties, the best tracks on those album sure did outshine his contemporaries.

I gave up on him a bit in the second halve of the nineties, too much plastic production, and a lack of good songwriting and original idea's.

The rainbow children and NEWS left me cold also, because of the music going nowhere and the lyrics being almost totally annoying.

My hopes did grow for him when he released Musicology in 2004. I enjoyed that album because it was focussed and disciplined. The same goes for 3121. Altough a bit boring, at least he didnt bother me too much with JW-crap.

But now its 2007. He releases a quirky little pop-rock album, called Planet Earth, that could have been quite great, if he had decided not too include a few dire, generic R&B-tracks to satisfy his R&B fanbase. A dumb mistake.
Next to that the lyrics he is expressing, show no real growth. Again, those halfbaken, corny 'political' lyrics, those unneccesary references to the Jehovah's, Prince acting like a 18yo pimp.

What makes it even worse is the interviews he did gave recently. I mean, its total nonsense he is uttering, it comes over as he himself does not even understand what he is saying (the bible this....the scriptures that..... that kind of crap).

In short, i thought he was past that stupid, brainwashed phase. It seems Prince hasnt grown a bit as a person and a musician since 2001. It annoys, it irritates me and i dont have the patience to relate to that crap anymore.

Hello people I love to hear what people have to say everyone has a opinion to talk about music is onething but when you bring in the bible and use that kind of talk like crap these are your words now the bible this...the scriptures that ...that kinda crap do you know what that is saying about you music is only entertainment but your soul is your responisbility and if comparing what a artist say in his music have that coming out of your mouth have you taken time to check where you stand do you now that same little man wearing high shoe will enter into Gods rest because he took the time to care about his soul please don't ever get that far off into music that a person using reference to God can make you not like a song don't get it twisted .

Yep, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. God bless America for that! If Prince annoys you that much, stop listening to his music. However, I kinda think you won't. Appreciate what you like and move on. Personally I like The Rainbow Children and I love NEWS. Unfortunately Prince can't please everyone, but you gotta admit, his music is so much better than most of the stuff you hear on Top 40 radio.

Why does everyone make this statement? As if all that exists in popular music is Top 40 radio. Do you people actually listen to top 40 radio and pat yourself on the back for having Planet Earth instead?

Prince may be more cutting edge than top 40 radio, but he's no where near the top of current pop and rock. He's a has been and he knows it. That's why he plays the hits live.

So yes, in regards to the original message, stop listening to his new music and stick with the older tracks.
No hard feelings.

I don't get this need to critique Prince's every move and complain everytime he doesn't float your boat. Some of u folks act like Prince is your own personal musical slave or something. It borders on being crazy. If u are not feeling him take a walk. What's the dilemma about? It reminds me of marrieds couples who can't stand each other but are too afraid to leave. Just DO IT.

Hold up, I thought you had liked Planet Earth and now you're dogging it? I'm not saying you shouldn't but damn, this is proof of how hard it is to please fans and I don't envy Prince for being in the position he's in. And for all of you who are like Riverpoet31, Prince is gonna do what Prince is gonna do. Either you'll stay on the boat or you'll jump off and some of you really need to go. I just hope you don't drown if and when you leave.

I think, I understand where Riverpoet is coming from. Since I am not an music expert I cannot say Prince's music is better or worse, than when he started out. But I believe, he lost his trail-blazing, trend-setting qualities. Some of the raw passion he used to have is missing, too. I think a lot has to do with getting older and lets face it, Prince has been living his life as a rich, pampered celebrity for a long time. In the beginning he didn't have the fame and fortune, and that inspired him probably more to produce mind blowing music. But for him being in the business for 30 years, he's still going strong. The man is a legend and still one of the best live performers the world has seen. Nobody can take that from him. As long as Prince is making music, he will continue to amaze us, like he did at the Superbowl. Even people who are not Prince fans, were blown away by that performance. He is still able to reach everybody with his music, no matter what race, age, or gender. How many artists can do that?

Prince music is never bad, hes too talented for that but my fandom dropped off in the 2000s certainly. The musical side became standard Prince by numbers and that combined with dogmatic religious lyrics just doesn't do it for me. I do however enjoy about half of 3121.

All I have to do when I think I'm getting tired of Prince, is turn on the radio and listen to something by these current so-called artists. It makes me appreciate Prince all over again. Prince's weakest music is stronger than their bullshit.

its not about hating. if you don't like the music your artist is doing, especially as long as Riverpoet have been posting about it over and over and over and over, why not just release yourself and move on. I don't undertand the need to hold yourself hostage to an artist, and constantly complaining about being irritated and running out of patience, when you could just listen to someone else.
