Why Didnt Prince sue Puffy? Puff Daddy used Kiss as the beat on Biggie's "Would U Die 4 Me?" featuring Lil' Kim. I love the song and stuff but why didnt Prince sue Puffy by now? Does he even know? I've never heard the song, but apparently it's a sample...knowing Puffy. Samples have to be cleared. If they're not, the person doing the sampling could be in trouble. But cleared samples are a different issue than bootlegs. This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes. | |

i heard a story that Puffy,Prince&Biggie all met up&Prince asked Puffy if He Owned His Masters&Puffy Said no&Prince said you can't use "Kiss" but Puffy apparently got it.Puffy also was using "If I was Your Girlfriend" on stage as well.Prince likes the Green&Very Seldom turns any Clearence down no matter what He says. mistermaxxx | |

I don't know if you remember, but prince offered his samples for a fee, to whom ever wanted them and to use them as often as they wanted to. Why would Puffy just use kiss without permission when all he had to do is pay Prince $700 and he has freedom to use all of them. Puffy is rich, and &700 is nothing to him,

i remember ja-rule and kiss as well...he wanted to sample it for some sdtrk song and he said something like
"damn hes black and im black why cant he help me out?...this might be a niggas only hit". or something like that. the song has a replayed(is that the correct term?) sample of kiss but its a sorry song(i think its on the rush hr. sdtrk.) | |

Where do you all come up with this crap. Well Prince wasnt even listed in the credits of the song that's why I thought he may have not known...there are probably more out there released and stuff, just like "Im A Slave 4 U" not 2 mention also "Please Dont Mind" by Philly's Most Wanted (both produced by my boys the Neptunes) This may not be nothing 2 sue over, but du u guys hear "The Beautiful Ones" Drum hit in Timbalands "I Am Music" f/ Aaliyah & Ginuwine? Puff probably has more money and hence would spend him out of court...
Justice is doled out by the dollar in the US, and I'd bet Puff has more of em'. Puffy sucks anyway. Already on his 17th minute of fame. No talent hack who's truly symbolic of the current state of "music". He should be sued for on the grounds of what he did to "Kashmir" alone (with Jimmy Page's support, no less). | |

Prince probably didn't give Puffy permission, but due to the fact that Prince doesn't own "Kiss" Puffy probably went to Warner Bros. to get the o.k. From my understanding that's how Alicia Keys got to remake HCUDCMA. I read it in a interview she gave a magazine,(Sister2Sister, I think). She stated that Prince was going to sue her at first until she persuaded him to listen to the song on the CD First. And I know Prince couldn't have given Ginuwine any permission to butcher "When Doves Cry" or many other artists who "try" to remake any Prince songs. I think it's all up to Warner Brothers since they own all his master recordings and copyrights. Ever notice that no one ever tries to remake his newer material? | |

ANYONE can record a cover version providing they buy the license to do so. Cover versions are not to be misconstrued with sampling. Prince can't sue anyone for simply covering his song. Again: WB owns copyrights to the master recordings. Prince owns the songwriting copyrights because he wrote the songs. Two entirely different issues. This post not for the wimp contingent.
