My Prince CDs are in a separate CD holder than my other CDs. They start with "For You" are in order, by year, to the "Planet Earth" CD.

Mine, too -- Prince has earned a special spot in my collection.

Besides, if I put his albums in with the rest of my CDs, people would think that was all I had! lol
We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

In the early years, I used to have Prince in my collection by year but mixed with the other artists. For instance, in 1981, you might find Prince's "Controversy" in between Rick James' "Street Songs" and The Barkays' "Nightcruising. In 1982, you might find Prince's "1999" in between The Dazz Band's "Keep It Live" and Cameo's "Alligator Woman".

Over the years though, especially in the 1990s when I started buying less and less CDs because music in general had turned to shit, I put all the Prince and protegees in their own separate holders because, like yourself, it started to look like Prince was all I had. lol

Oh, and with me it's actually Queen's debut album, but they are at my friend's house.

No Public Enemy on CD?

I think Portishead came right before Portrait... although it is hard to say since there are about another thousand I haven't sorted into the main shelves. No space!

LP, mate.

I'm so surprised that JasonStar and Vainandy keep their stuff in chronological order!

Mine are A to Z (just like the store I guess) and I try to keep each artist's releases in order.

I keep all my CDs in A-Z order by artist, then each artist's albums are in
chronological order. It's the only really logical way to do it if you've got
thousands of CDs to keep track of.

That's how I get inspired in what I want to play next. Each year seemed to have similar sounding songs so when I'm flipping through my records, that's how I continue a particular mood I'm in and what sounds good following another song. If they were in alphabetical order, I wouldn't be able to refresh my memory.

I also file them, if possible by genre. All funk together, all slow jams (45s) together, all disco together, all house music together, and all rock together. When I'm in a particular mood, I play only that genre and I have to be able to finds songs quick.

Mainly just for fun, pleasing myself or making tapes or CDs for friends. I've always been obsessed with a good mix ever since I heard the DJs mixing during the disco era in the skating rinks. I've played around with it for years.

I've never had a real DJ "job", although I did DJ in a gay club for a few months back in 1994 (as a favor to a friend who was trying to get a club off the ground). I quit because it started staying open later and later and it was also starting to interfere with my real job. There was another DJ there and that's another reason I quit. The club wouldn't buy any new music because he would bring his personal music from home. If I got a good crowd response off a song, that song would mysteriously disappear the next night. I also got tired of drag queens coming to the booth and requesting Shitney Houston....something that I did not play....ever. lol

In my CD holder, Prince is sandwiched between No Doubt's The Singles 1992-2003 and Red Hot Chili Pepper's Blood Sugar Sex Magik Yeah, I haven't bought CDs in awhile if you couldn't tell, with the exception of Prince, of course.

okay then. one of the apostle using foul language is still offensive to me, being Catholic. and also, its a great work of art (The Last Supper- which i think its from) and its horrible for a part of it to be used that way.
