I'm NOT trying 2 start another one of those MJ vs Prince threads. So Please no Hating here.

I have been listening 2 'Off The Wall' a lot lately. I was thinking if ever there was a year where MJ was funkier than Prince this Might have been the year. Prince put out 'Prince' in this same year. But I think the Funk edge would have 2 go 2 MJ in this year..

What do U guys think??

I'd have to agree with you that Off The Wall is the funkier album.

I've heard that Prince adopted the "dirty" image from watching Rick James. I wonder what might've happened otherwise . . .

Cool FuNkenseiN. Those Basslines on 'Off The Wall' were killer! Prince was still a young Jedi Knight in '79. Meanwhile Lord Quincy Jones & MJ were "Strong in the Force" of Funk.

Funk to me is people that play..Mike had the vocal thing down COLD ! on that album..and the rhythm in his body..but if you left him in the studio with a bass..drums..some keyboards,guitars and a mic..he would only be able to make rough sketches that could only give a TRUE FUNKATEER something to work off of..so If this thread is strictly about FONK, Prince gets my vote !

If I HAD to choose between Off The Wall and Prince, it would definitely be OTW. And I would never say that about any other album in MJ's career that came out the same year as a Prince one.
