If I Was Your Girlfriend - what a great song!

This song is so sick. I love it, everything about it is so sophisticated and mature and progressive. Who would have thought a major pop star in the middle of the 80s could have come up with a song like that?

I always thought that Sign O The Times was the blueprint for modern soul/neo-soul. No SOTT, No OutKast, no D'Angelo, no MeShell.

Oh yes. Probably my favorite studio recording a great example of him using the studio as an instrument. Lead vocal speeded up, background vocals slowed down, keyboards recorded backwards.

The speech at the end is amazing, so claustrophobic, so obsessed

I love it thumbs up!

It´s gems like this that make me shake my head in disbelief when I hear the lyrics to some of his newer stuff like The One U Wanna C or Guitar...how can the same person who is such a genius of a songwriter come up with stuff like that when he knows himself what he´s capable of ?
I love this song...too bad he had to rearrange it a bit for the O2 show. The horns ruin it.

I wish Prince would drop the horns from his live show period.

Horns ruin alot of classic Prince songs when he plays them live these days. Like when he puts the horns in Let's Go Crazy and Kiss. disbelief

OMG, this is a stone cold classic. worship

Like others have said, it perfectly captures the intensity that Prince must have been trying to convey. Claustrophobic? It almost feels like you're watching him from behind a curtain or something; it is so personal. The song is just pure genius - from the production, to the lyrics, to the idea itself. Genius.

With 'Sign 'O' The Times', 'When Doves Cry' and this - these are definitely in the top 3 Prince compositions ever, IMO.

I agree. One of the reasons I got into his music because he used sythesizers where most people would have used horns. Now it seems it's the other way around. He uses horns and everyone else is using synthesizers.

I think he's asking you what was the James Mtume song Prince "stole" from.
