what's the difference between.. the late 80's 'rave unto the joy fantastic' version and the released late 90's version? never had the chance to hear it. what's wrong with this song? why didn't prince release this on any 80's record? it wasn't suited for the batman album? man, this song beats 'lemon crush' by far. it's no 'partyman', but it's damn sure funky. and why didn't he release the 'rave' album he had planned for '88. hell, this could have easily been one of the better songs on 'grafitti bridge'.. don't need no reefer, don't need cocaine
purple music does the same to my brain i'm high, so high

It's practically identical
He barely changed the original at all for inclusion on Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic in 1999. Personally I never particularly liked it anyway. I heard the 'Small Club' version first, (which totally rocked!) so the studio version just sounded lifeless. The remixed version: 'Rave In2 The Joy Fantastic' was an improvement, but still didn't have the energy that a song with a title like that should've had. He should have released it at the time of the other Batman stuff and got William Orbit & Mark Moore to remix it, like they did Batdance & The Future. It would've fitted with the title of the song better. [This message was edited Sun Oct 6 9:09:03 PDT 2002 by BorisFishpaw]

The small club version is a little more than "It's gonna be a beautiful night" with different lyrics. As for the rest of what you said i agree, although the rave segment on batman extended is pretty cool also.

If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.
