Reason for writing Future Baby Mama? I don't remember the exact circumstances of his last marriage but she had complications with her pregnancy, correct? I was thinking that this song was in some ways a reaction to that experience. Am I reading too much into this?

I was under the impression that is was about his next love hanging with his lifestyle.

I know it doesn't say it explicitly but I was just thinking that would aspect would go into his feelings. I totally agree with what your saying though.

Fairly new...I realize they didn't have children. Was it Mayte then that had complications with pregnancy? I swear I heard this. Perhaps it was speculation.

Perhaps it was speculation. he had a baby with his first wife mayte and sadly the child died. but this song is absolutely not about that. losing a child is one of if not the worst thing a person can experience in life. prince probably wrote a few songs with that experience in mind, for instance "come back" from The Truth (1997) but not this one. this song is simply about finding someone who will suit prince n his lifestyle. think about a line like "they ain't got what it takes to be a future baby mama" anyone thinking prince would write that with mayte in mind has some serious issues. a comment like that, on a song, about your ex wife and your baby that didn't make it would account for probably the number 1 most horrible moment in recorded music. but it isn't about that. it's just about telling this woman she means more to him than all the others who came and went and did not click with him. and even considering the list of women who came and went, this song might be more about manuele than mayte. i think he would be human enough to leave their shared experience out of it. 100% sure. cuz prince don't roll like that and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

The song does not have to be about Prince personally, I don't know why people think that all singers have to write about themselves all the time.

I'm not as up with the prince history as some of the org'ers so thanks for the info. I wasn't trying to make some profound statement the thought just popped into my head as I was listening to it today. Also agree that artists right more about more than just about themselves. This couldn't be more true with regard to Prince. He's a true writer. I'm sure just about anything can spark his songs. No worries.

I am Sorry that Prince and Mayte have to share that experience, however
I know the baby's soul is alive. That is just one of those sad things that life can give us. "The Lion Sleeps Tonight...
