The Vault... Old Friends For Sale So, I decided to bust this CD out just now. It's been a WHILE.
I forgot the hidden gems on this one! And I also forgot the great extended version of She Spoke To Me!! Amazing jazz! I am used to only listening to that song on the Girl 6 soundtrack... Anyway, don't know why I'm telling ya'll this. Just bored on a rainy Saturday night. What are ya'll's thoughts on this record?

it's a great collection of songs if not released, they'd be legendary bootlegs for sure

This album really pissed me off when I bought it because it was not what I was expecting. The hype about the album before it was released, is that it was a collection of old songs that Prince had from the vault from around 1984. In 1984, Prince's sound was hard, cold, and Minneapolisy. When I got "The Vault" album, it was full of jazz and different things. In other words, not the "Old Prince" at all but the artsy/fartsy type Prince after he changed his style in 1985.
I wonder if he had strictly just written the songs back then but had not actually recorded them set to music. If so, that would explain why they sounded nothing like 1984 Prince. Andy is a four letter word.
