HELP 2 the 9s --> what kind of love does he talks about? Hi, this is the very first time I write in this forum. I am an Italian student and I am attending a translation lesson at university. A teacher has given me a test in which there is a question about Prince:

if you're asking about the expression "to the nines" (2 the 9s)
it means doing something the best way you know how, to perfection so what he's saying in the song is that he wants to be loved by someone in the best way someone could possibly love him -- to ultimate perfection, "for all time" peace | |

Yes. Look at the lyrix. Then answer your teacher's question by answering the questions Prince asks near the end of the song. Theoretically, if you can do the things he asks, you could love him 2 the 9z. | |

You guys are mean. "To the nines" is not-too-commonly used idiom to begin with...and Princebonics (especially using "2" instead of "to") makes it damn near impossible to figure out. Yes, you could probably deduce it from the lyrics...but think about how you might do that if you didn't speak English to begin with.
