If the music in the tapes that are decaying are good or bad is totally irrelevant at this point. The real point is that it should be preserved. Whether anybody in our lifetime hears it or not.
I think there are only a handful of artists in his league, and all of their work should be preserved, The unfinished songs, the rough sketches, the way he approaches music it would be great to have all that preserved for other generations to study and appreciate in a different light. Hear that egomaniac Prince,..... sometime in the distant future a big even in music circles will unvail the unfinished works of Prince! .....in the distance 7 souls from now you will still be here!!! When Doves Cry (which was turned around in a day I believe) and Purple Rain were not on the original list. The man has crazy amounts of material that may just rot away. It is his music and if that is what he wants to do with it, then so be it. But what a waste that would be. Later Cause tomorrow is taking too long
and yesterday's too far away and the reality that you believe in begins to bind.

Taken from the Star Tribune: He said he didn't want anybody to hear all that music. Those old analog tapes are just gumming up down in his vault. - Well, he used to say that his music was like his children. So, I bet he will find a way to save the songs. At least what he considers the best part of it. But I would really love to spend hours into that Vault...

The Historical Preservation Society could intervene and declare The Vault and everything in it a historical monument or recognize its historical significance to American history and culture...but they would probably be too busy trying to rescue from destruction the ramshackle cabin in which Jimmy Carter was born. Just say "NO" to cow mucus consumption!
