Who else is longing for a 'far out', experimental, I dont give a fuck album?

I mean, after three quite focussed, quite calculated albums (Musicology, 3121 and Planet Earth) i am personally longing for Prince just following his muse again and going all out 'weird' again.

If that gives us a great album, is a different question. I mean: personally i love Lovesexy (over the top in a good way), and i despise The Rainbow Children (an irritating mess), while The symbol album (Very bombastic, but also a 'guilty pleasure') falls in between those two, for me at least.

His last three albums are proof that he still can deliver focussed albums appealing to a broad range of fans, but i dont think i can stand a 4th album in that vein.

I rather hear him taking risks again, delivering 10-minute long 'suites', some spaced out hard funk-jams or songs that mix musical styles that nobody else seems able to combine, then delivering a 4th album that makes me think: nice and decent, but were is the real action?

Anyone agrees?

I agree, but I doubt it will ever happen, maybe he can squeeze out 1 more song like that but that's about it. I just don't think he WANTS to anymore.

Sure! Prince has been playing it safe with these two good comebacks (3121 and Musicology) and with the recent release of Planet Earth, he took a 180-degree approach to go back to his pop-rock chops and it worked pretty well. So, I wouldn't be surprised if he drops something like a double album next with more complex, ambitious stuff. I'll certainly buy it...

I 600% agree, but I also partly think Planet Earth had that mentality. Seeing as it's an extemely divided album to fans and critics. It spans five different genres on one disc, and lacked the "formal packaging" cd's usually have (personally, i thought that was cool, as I am clumsy and lose cases like it's my job)

but aside from that, something out there would be crazy. i'm even intrested to see if he persues his symphony idea.

I would love that but I would personally want it to be either on the funk or the rock tip, but not on the jazzy tip...I dig jazz but I'd rather hear him go all weird in the funk/rock direction.

I've always leaned a bit more toward his "experimental" stuff. So I'd be pretty happy if he went that route again in the near future. But honestly... I'd be satisfied with just about anything as long as he spent a bit more time at the mixing console with it than he did with PE. And for the love of God don't let Eddy Schreyer anywhere near it.

everyone of his albums is him not giving a fuck an doing what he wants . AN he so happens to want to do more accessable yet still unique songs these days . which i am very glad of .. thats his stregth he is a very capable songwriter ..an writer hit like songs aint as easy as doing songs like DITITAL GARDEN or whatever u guys want .. I want more pop or whatever the hell he wants to do . ill get it .cos i trust the man . he aint let me down yet ...so let him do his thing .. he has been getting his hit writing ability back bigger an bigger with his last 3 albums . i want him to keep following that path ..cos its getting so damn good its scary .an could be pushing towards another Purple Rain kinda peak .. if he keeps it up

so stay on the ball .. an dont fall off track yet! .. is what i would hope he does ..cos theres growth on the last 3 albums .. where he is getting to the point where his new songs ..sound like they could be on his Greatest Hits .. i dont think that the bulk of his mid 90s - 2004 stuff came up to that level very often .. although it was good .. it was good in a different way .. prince carrys on with this new found . maybe never lost .. hit writing thing .. he will get songs as big as KISS ect in the next few albums .. maybe he already has .. but they is room 4 growth ... he never lost it .. it just got rusty an even the songs that coulda been hits like BABY KNOWS ect .. seemed to lack the top POP quality of CREAM..ALPHABET STREET ..ECT ECT .. u cant say that of THE ONE U WANNA C ..BLACK SWEAT .. ect ... premiure league pop .. i hope 4 more of it! ..... an its obvious he is gonna be experimental ..but most of his hits were aswell .. he just stuck to the rules of having a hook .. unlike RAINBOW ect .. he done the experimental thing too the limit an beyond all his carrier .. an still will .. but i feel like he dont need to go 2 far again in a hurry .. an dont want another RAINBOW CHILDREN. ..

just keep the pop thing going ..cos he is so damn good at it ..an he is getting better ..... whatever he does . he just gotta follow his heart an we will enjoy the suprize ... PLANNET EARTH is hugely different to the last 2 albums b4 .. an most of his albums are different an have a sound that u can only call '''''blar blar blar period .... or blarr blar blar period .. im sure his next work will be different aswell .. but at the moment i am still chewing an extactic about PLANNET EARTH ..... but theres always room 4 more!!!!! ... princes prolificness has made him have greedy/demanding fans
MORE .. MORE ,.. MORE
whenever i want to hear some new music ...i make some - prince '99'

Exactly. The type of hard uptempo funk/rock that none of today's general public would like.

I'm not opposed to the WHOLE Star Wars universe- just as long as there's no Darth Vader Voice or blabbery Jar Jar Binks influence (Larry G, ain't it weird how much he looks like Jar Jar)

I agree, I'd love another experimental album. Especially in the vein of The Rainbow Children or Around The World In A Day.

I've given up wanting or expecting anything radically unusual or different. People think he's eclectic and diverse but his schtick has been pretty narrow for the last 15 years.

Seriously though, I just want to hear the man play. He's had 3 commercially viable discs in a row. Nothing wrong with that. He is, afterall, in a business that requires an audience, so you need something broadly appealing now and then to keep a decent-sized audience. I'm all for artistic integrity and experimentation, but we can't forget this is his job. I's not even an issue of money for The Kid at this point, of course. I suspect Prince, like many people his age who've worked their whole life, wouldn't know what to do with himself if he stopped doing what he does or even took it easy for a while. lol

Though I think we're definitely overdue a this point for another weird ass for-the-hardcore-fan-set that sounds like he's been playing around with a variety of drugs. The fanbase may have a love/hate with TRC, but you can't deny it was interesting.

TRC "experimental"? Ehm... well... yeah the Darth vader voice was pretty experimental indeed. Maybe the title song too, but the rest? Pretty regular Prince mixing of some funk, rock, r&b, jazz and a little latin here and there. Not made for the masses, but not experimental either.

All experimental will be when he does something he really has never done before, like for example an album fully inspired by african music, from the continent itself. He ought to hang out there for a while, travel through some countries, play with other musicans, return home and produce a killer "experimental" album insipred by his journey and the music he absorbed.

I would love if he did a whole album that he refused to perform live because the catch is...It's a super dirty album. I'm talking about song's freakier than head and all the rest with alot of Moaning and "ouwwwww"s on the album. Basically an album in RARE form. I would be perfectly fine without him singing it live. And I would cherise it forever as one of my little guilty pleasures....well that and chocolate lol

Yeah, like "I dont give a fuck" if people think I sound like Shit. I dont give a fuck if MrGoodnight sounds dated and plastic. I dont give a fuck if All the midnights sounds like a retard. I dont give a fuck if Resolution lyrics are completely stupid. I dont give a fuck if Planet Earth is completely meaningless. Yeah Im gonna show them all how crap I am. I dont give a fuck!!

I totally agree because this safe approach just aint working for him. He needs to bring back Michael B and Sonny T. I'm also longing for a full-on Funk album like say a modern version of Camille. But I'm not raising my hopes. Prince really likes being a popstar.
