this song sounded weird on the PR tour and had an evolution through the years until the Nude Tour 1990 where imho it became beautiful and very moving. Michael B and Rosie Gaines, Levi and Miko with Prince sitting at the piano at the very end.

My favorite is the Lovesexy version where the final guitar solo on Let's Go Crazy masterfully blends into the into to WDC, which in turn led into Purple Rain. That gave me chills.

IMHO When Doves Cry is the same as Kiss and lately Black Sweat in that they have never really worked live. It might be that the subtle instrumentation doesn't lend itself to playing live in an arena setting?

Having said that SOTT and Alphabet St do work well live!

I'm not a huge fan of When Doves Cry I'm afraid.

I must disagree with the above post about Kiss though. Check the Rave Un2 The Year 2000 version of that bad boy. It's funkier than a funky thing.
