I know this isnt the discussion thread and I know Im making a late comment about it but anyways heres my thoughts on PlanetEarth.

Firstly I wanna say Im longtime Prince fan since 1983 I been a fan eversince but as been said in my older posts Im of the belief Prince's most consistant era was from early 80's untill about 1992 with LoveSymbol possibly at end of that very consistant roll. I believe there has been good stuff flowin after that period just I have felt something had maybe gone astray with the consistancy.

Anyways what I wanna say about Planet Earth is...

I found it actually to be overall very refreshing album. I dont think I would put it into category of absolute brilliance but I gotta say compared to say Prince albums generally released over last few years this one really suprised me, there something about it that hit me by suprise. I felt a sense of adventure and creativity and freshness in his work on this album that I havnt felt the sense of that for many years. It was interesting to hear a different production approach I hear some people talking about his voice wasnt same or as good etc etc I dont really fault him on these things cause I think it was fine just a bit different cause he was going for a different approach he was going for an earthy straight ahead sound in parts rather than overproduced pop plastic sound.

Yes bits and pieces of this album to some degree can be asscoitaed to previous work as some people pointed to Chaos and Disorder I see some of that although I tend to see PE as overall better album the overall sound on PE is way better than Chaos and Disorder and the overall flow of PE is much better. For me I enjoyed the lack of wacky narration between tracks, I somehow never was fan of that since Prince started doing it, I always thought it reduced the cool factor any album had going on. PE I feel is kinda quite a cool album its definitly easy listening I mean there's nothing on it of perhaps absolute brilliance but it also has a fresh feel to it that sets it apart from say last 5 albums and there is nothing I find particuliarly annoying or absolutly boring on it even if I like some tracks more or less than others.

If Prince can sustain the adventurous and creative juices that I feel seemed to
be awakening in PE then I feel there is possibility of another masterpiece inb the works ala Parade, Sign O Times, Purple Rain, LoveSexy, 1999.

I'm loving it!
It's the first one in a while I can listen all the way through,
well except for track 5.

Hot damn! I agree completely!! His Purpleness' new album helped me paint my place over the weekend (I finally got the damn thing!) and I was very impressed with his results (My crib looks great too...). I really like all the songs and sure there are a few weak moments but over all I'd give the whole thing 4 outta 5 stars.

Fav tracks :

1) The One U Wanna C
2) Chelsea Rodgers
3) Guitar
A working class Hero is something to be ~ Lennon
