Man, what the fuck...I read the OP, and went to google to see about this J Holiday, as I've never heard of him, let alone the song. I figure, damn if brotha on the Org is that adamant about someone coming up with something more interesting that Prince, I'd better check it out.
Mirrorbestfriend, you owe me exactly 1:30 seconds of my life. That's how long it took to find his site, and listen to what I could stand before I had close the page. That is the most formulaic-sounding bullshit I've heard in a while. It sounds like someone went to a whiteboard, mapped out exactly what they wanted according to what the stations play, performed some lagebraic functions, and came up with that. If I heard that and didn't know who it was, it could easily have been any of the 30 or so "R&B" male artists out there pumping out bullshit that they think will get the girl's panties wet. I ain't even comparing him to Prince (that's like comparing a Mont Blanc to a Bic), but damn, that shit wasn't right. I'm with what someone on this thread said; if Prince ever did start appealing to those 30 and younger, it's time for my black ass to get off the boat!!

hopefully not irrelevant like Prince to anyone under 30 As a person in my 20's I can safely say---you don't know what the fuck you are talking about. and future babay mama aint run of the mill? It is run of the mill for Prince--but not compared to anyone making music these days. Like I said, it's not a matter of better vs. worse. But there ain't a lot of people making R&B with that old smoothed out soul sound that "Future baby mama" is in the tradition of. How many "current" male R&B stars are making ballads with a falsetto like that? How many "current" male R&B stars are producing/writing/performing all their own shit? How many "current" male R&B stars are making R&B with no guest stars rapping or giving shout outs? How many current male R&B stars are sellin' out stadiums like Prince? Answer---none. And as far as R. Kelly goes...he is a poser, he's a child molester, and he's still stuck in that fuckin' closet--which wasn't all that the 1st time around. And on the nerd tip: Only R. Kelly would be stupid enough to do a Batman song about Gotham City and claim it's a "..city of justice a city of peace..". Gotham City is the most corrupt and most violent fake city ever dreamed of. Prince knew that. He had it right when he said" "...in Gotham City. The sound of terror is all U hear..". R. Kelly is a joke and a ready made Mad TV skit. I like it.
I just didn't know I could only like one song at a time. Or that I had to constantly be comparing them against each other. I was simply just enjoying, my bad. Heck I'm overjoyed that it looks like the industry is getting back to somekind of singing. I was gettin' more than my fill of the "dirty south" madness.

hopefully not irrelevant like Prince to anyone under 30 ----- Prince does not need to be relevant to anyone under 30. People who are over 30 have all the money and they don't seem to mind spending on P. You can't name one RnB act that has raked in 100 million in concert ticket sales in the last five years outside of Prince. No RnB act has got it going on right now like Prince and he is almost 50. None of the clowns around now are going to be doing anything when they are 50 but, playing at the local Holiday Inn. You just are not going to see record labels putting in the time and money to develop acts like they use to. P is the last of a dying breed.

Exactly, his major tour in the US was a winner. Secondly, with little or no promotion on the last 2 albums, he did do well. Besides I don't think we should waste our time arguing with this poster, it's obvious he's got some chip on his shoulder regarding Prince and makes these posts to stir things up. There's no way you can possibly compare a music icon such as Prince to this artist, it's a whole different package and then some. Let's see if these new artists today can make a major change in music, have their songs or names for that matter remembered 10 years from now, have their music reach audiences from many racial/cultural backgrounds, and have people flying from all over the world to see them perform like Prince. If that's the case, then these new artists sure have a lot to prove...uh..."J who?? " [Edited 8/18/07 13:21pm]

mirrorbestfriend said: J Holiday's BED song is sexier than any thing prince has done since scandalous.....
why is prince letting these youngsters run circles around him? Reggie Jamz also has a song called Too Late that is another prince killer! Will Prince fight back? or get badly out done again like R Kelly did him in the 90's? here is a quote from j holiday.... J. Holiday doesn’t pull any punches when he offers his take on the current state of R&B. “Rhythm and Blues is lacking storytellers right now,” insists the candid 23-year-old singer/songwriter. Holiday then pauses, name checks the late legendary singer Otis Redding as if to show his soul credentials and asks, “Where’s our generations’ ‘Sitting on the Dock of the Bay?’ Lately, it seems hip-hop has been birthing all of the great storytellers. It’s time to show that R&B is way more than just dance music. That’s what I’m trying to convey with my music. I won’t settle for less.” Will prince ever be able to compete in the slow jamz market again? As we say here in London - Are u 'avin' a laugh mate!! lol yes I'm sure master Holiday is an adequate songwriter/performer but if he makes R&B of the same style as that R Kelly chap then I am afraid i don't see your argument - Prnce has written enough classics in his 30 odd years in the business and IMO still writes some great stuff but he is human and through his experimenting and creativity will still produce stuff that he thinks is great but that maybe we dont. Thing is He is Prince and he can make pop/soul/funk/rock/jazz or whatever else he chooses but come on lets not try and get him to make that R&B dross that R Kelly and the rest of the that one trick pony crowd do! its seriously lazy 'music' and I dont give a toss if J. Holiday. R. Kelly or B. Oring continue to provide a proven genius with 'competition'

I never heard Bed on the radio before, but I'm hearing alot of Future Baby Mama and The One You Wana See.But before you try to justify Prince being shown up by J Holiday let's see how long will he will be around.Prince has been around almost 30 years and still creates a buzz.Longevity is what proves whether you are truly revelant.

How are they gonna play the Holiday Inn when they can't actually play anything now? They betta save their money...cuz the retirement from their next job (at Wal-Mart) won't be shit. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.
