Discuss - Dream Factory (album) What's everyones thoughts on the Dream Factory album? Do you like the 2nd version or the 3rd version better?
It's a crime neither version came out, both versions are pretty wild. I suppose the 2nd version is the best, since it's more Revolution oriented. That one could have come out in '87, while the material more "solo Prince" oriented (Sign, The Cross, Adore, etc) could have come out in '88. It would have been two incredible albums back to back, but then we might never have Lovesexy or The Black Album... so it's hard to say. It's such a shame that the record industry worked the way it did, with Warner not allowing Prince to release more than one album per year. As a result, Prince recorded so much music from '85 to '87 (and beyond) that got shelved because he was unable to release it through Warner or on his own. I really feel for him in that respect. Prince would be even more respected and admired today if the world would have heard all this music. There's no room for someone as gifted as Prince in the music industry, but there will always be a place for his music in my crib. Always. Unless he sues me. [Edited 8/16/07 22:55pm] Could he release Dream Factory today, even though some of those songs were officially released by Warner Bros? 20 years ago, when these albums were produced, he could not release them as soon as he completed them. Here's my take on it.
