What is it that Prince could possibly release that would make the majority of his fanbase happy?

Let me rephrase the question...

If prince were to release an album that blew away the masses; including the naysayers, hardcore worshippers, and new listeners alike; what would it sound like?

My point is this: Prince has released How many albums? How many songs? How many different sounding albums and songs? The man is about VARIETY!! Variety mixed with a hell of a lot of talent. I, for one, am very happy he has this mixture going for him. I look forward to hearing how his sound will change from album to album. I think a lot of people take this for granted.

Every time he gives us something new, I always picture a bunch of people sitting around (after hearing the new release through a few times) saying to themselves:

"This isn't good Prince music. I wish he'd make good music again. Oh well, he'll put out another something or other next year...maybe THAT will be good Prince music. I'll keep my fingers crossed for that one"

I hear this a lot:

"Rainbow Children? Hated it!"
"Rave? Hated it!"
"NPS? Hated it!"
"The Truth? Hated it!"
"One Night Alone? Hated it!"
"Chaos and Disorder? Hated it!"

You get the point...but the next point is...WHAT THE HELL DOES THE MAN HAVE TO DO? WHAT DO SOME PEOPLE WANT FROM HIM? OK...Fine...let's just get this out in the open. Two questions: (actually broken into several mini-questions)

1. If you don't like what Prince has done with his career since 1988, why are you still holding on? Is he really doing NOTHING right? Why are people so unhappy with the decisions Prince makes about the music he creates?

2. And as asked above, What the hell do you want from him? If you could mold and manipulate Prince into doing an album that you think the world wants to hear, what would it be like? Can you even imagine it? Could you even describe it? If so, why aren't any of you out there doing it yourselves?

Personally, I don't think he's doing all that bad.

I don't feel this way exactly. I think he's done amazing work over the span of his entire career. He still kicks my ass BUT I can tell he chooses to coast at times (Underneath the Cream, most of Rave). He knows when he's coasting, he HAS to, and I think that's even more frustrating than if he'd just lost it.



I just want him to keep at it, be happy, RELEASE SOME STUFF, keep touring & kicking my ass.

Who hated the TRUTH??
This is one of his best albums in the last ten years hands down and maybe on of his best ever.I have to admit Chaos and Disorder is ok.The rest of the lot is crap.Except for The Rainbow Children which is MEGA-CRAP!

I want him to stop being affected by "fans" who think THEY know what he "should" do. He seems to lose focus
when he "listens" to outside influences.

Yes and the sad thing is that fans have been begging for certain types of albums forever and they're finally getting them. But somehow they're still unhappy. These are some of the projects I've heard people jones-ing for for years and when they finally come out, no one seems to care.

solo piano set- One Nite Alone
acoustic album- The Truth
hard rock guitar album- Chaos and Disorder
straight forward funk- New Power Soul
set of rarities- Crystal Ball
return to form- The Rainbow Children
aim at the charts- Rave
live album- to be released soon

now I think there are a few stinkers in there but overall, I'd say he's been very open to his fans wishes and delivered good product.

I absolutely Love a ll the music Prince has put out. What I would like is for him to release some vault material and some old videos via the club. I also wanna see him do a Gothic album since he Never dabbled before. And maybe a fast Punk Rock creation too. I wanna see Prince get away from what he is accustomed to doing and just Experiment. I also want Prince to 1 day go back onstage in Bikini brief's and leg warmers. And here's another couple of things which are Bizarre. I wanna see Prince die his hair Purple and wear All Purple 1 night, another night wear all Blue, All yellow, All Lime Green, All Red, All Pink. I also wanna hear Prince sing in Japanese and Russian. Are these weird suggestions? Well that's what I want.

Just some small things that I'd like Prince to do. Just random thoughts..

• Release a definitive CONSISTENT series of outtakes, like a "Vault Series" with rare videos, live footage, unreleased videos, films, etc. as DVD's and/or VHS and unreleased albums with original artwork from way back.

• Put up rare, career pictures of himself and his various bands and associates on his website.

• Communicate a little more with his fans on his website...like an online tour journal or something...I dunno.

• Get good designers/photographers to udpate his site and labum artwork.

• Try reuniting with The Revolution for The Dawn.

I also want him to make a Kung Fu movie with himself and Jackie Chan and maybe Chris Rock. Then I wanna see him also make a boxing movie like Rocky and he can play Rocky. This is what I want Prince to do. Someday as a Goof I wanna see him work at Mc Donalds.

I want Prince to do with HIS art what he feels is best. I'm here for the whole ride.

Releasing a "hard rock guitar album" doesnt mean its a "GOOD hard rock guitar album".

People were asking for an album like that after hearing his amazing guitar work on stuff like The Undertaker and Just My Imagination.

Chaos & Disorder is in no way shape or form his best work, nor is it a stunning rock album (in my opinion).


Fans hear his amazing piano medley on the Lovesexy tour, or the famous bside HCUDCMA, then begin asking for a piano album.

One Night Alone is piano heavy, but beyond that, many of the songs are leagues away from the above mentioned in terms of quality. (in my opinion).


The only place I've been able to see Prince still do his magic is at the shows. Theres an energy in many of his performances that hasnt made it on to an album in almost a decade.

Its just confusing to me thats all.

I want Prince to...
Stop shoving his religious beliefs down my throat.
Get the NPGMC in order.
Start making videos again.
Divorce Larry Graham.
Never make a "New Master" of an old classic.
Get a decent official website up & running.
Be inducted into the R&R Hall of Fame like he deserves 2 be.

Other than that, he's perfect.

And, of course, his music will be looked at in a totally different light once he's gone. I know that's a morbid and negative thought, but it just goes to show that some people are more concerned about how good the NEWEST Prince material is, when they have a VAST catalogue of music to enjoy. It's like the back catalogue takes a back seat to the current releases. Prince has created an incredibly large body of work, and if he died today...THAT'S ALL YOU GOT. Once he goes, a lot of people are going to stop taking a lot of his music for granted.
