How to call 0+-> ? The artist currently known as Prince was once known as 0+->. While Prince is ok 0+-> is difficult. I mean not only did he not have a first and last name you couldn't pronounce it.
If he had his back turned in a crowded room how would you call him? I know Mayte used to call him baby but what if they were lost in an airport? They gur on the intercom would ask her what his name is and she'd say? I just don't think"Would Baby come to terminal C your wife is looking for you." would sound nice. Or what about his drivers license? DId they have a symbol on it? And what about his bills and letters , did they have a font on it. 0+-> 1999 Paisley Park Dr. Chanhassen,Mn 55103 looks kinda awkward. And how do you alphabetize him? FIrst comes symbols, then numbers, then letters A-Z. I quess he'd fall under symbols but where in? Or what about in court or at a ceremoney. He'd have his hand up or on a Bible saying "I_____ swear to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth so help me God.". I live in Houston a diverse city. Teachers always have problems pronouncing black and foriegn names but 0+-> would have been an unconcivable problem. Thank God he didn't change his name when he was little. The teachers would have gotten so frustrated they'd want to paddle him. And Mayte kept her maiden name Garcia I suppose. But if she wanted 0+-> last name what would she have done? I know Hollywood and the music community called him The Artist but what about the goverment and legal personell. Was he The Citizen formely known as Prince Rogers Nelson? [Edited 8/16/07 15:14pm] Working up a purple sweat.

He never legally changed it. It is against the law to put symbols, numbers, and unpronouncable stuff in a legal name. Id have to look the exact law up, though.

It wasn't a legal name change.
And most of the guys called him "girl" anyways. "Girl, come here. Girl, that show was hot!" that sort of thing.

I love the situations you came up with. "Will Baby please come to terminal C..." I don't know how one would go about pronouncing that, but if they were separated at the airport, I think they would have ended up using Mayte's name. "Mayte Garcia is looking for her husband..." or "Mayte Garcia, please report to terminal C. Your husband is looking for you..."

Well on The Oprah interview he said that if he heard Orince in his livingroom he'd drop his tea. He said he got kinda offened when they called him Prince cause that's not his name. Working up a purple sweat.

Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

As far as I know it is legal, both in Canada and the U.S. Otherwise, those with silent letters, apostrophes, and hyphens, single letter-names, and yes -numbers, too - in their names would be in some trouble. "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

Is that for sure? I've heard conflicting reports. Some say it was legal, some say it wasn't. Keeping strictly as a stage name would've been more practical, but Prince rarely takes the easy route, and he did enforce the "I'm not Prince anymore" thing with friends and family, so.... the problem is u'r trying 2 pronounce something instead of finding out the true meaning of the symbol ..thus u would know how 2 "pronounce" it. man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

Wasnt he gonna marry Mayte in paris, but their laws wouldnt allow him to use the symbol. I remember a spokesperson commenting on that just cause his 0(+> was legal in the USA it is not Legal in Paris

At that point he was usually called The Artist if I recall correctly. I don't think he'd get angry at that.
But wasn't it still just his "Stage name" that was changed? I mean, since to him it "symbolized" (heh, pun intended) the breakup and independence of WB, he insisted on it in public and I'm sure in private too, because that's how extreme he is about things....But I do not think his passport, Driver's lisence, etc. was changed.

What difference does it make? He's Prince again. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

yet he's still wearing the symbol around his neck..his current stage is of the symbol and he has a guitar in shape of the symbol ..so again it must mean something 2 him and if u knew what it meant instead of trying 2 "pronounce" something that u can't, u might have a better understanding urself man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

So what if he's still wearing the symbol? If he isn't using it as his name anymore, why call it anything other than "the symbol?" The author of this thread wasn't talking about what the symbol meant, either...s/he specifically wondered what Prince was called while using the symbol as a name. Honey, don't condescend to me. I'm a professional writer -- I don't need lessons in reading comprehension from the likes of you. My point is...I don't fucking care how to "pronounce" the symbol. Since it is no longer being used as a name, there really isn't a point to it, anyway. So all your mysterious, "I'm so deep, I know what it means. You shallow people just don't get it," mumbo jumbo is ridiculous, if not stupid. Comprehend that! We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.
