The Rainbow Children - It could've been a truly great song if it didn't start with an endless rant from Lord Vader. Still, it does have a nice, jazzy catchiness to it, and I like the way it builds gradually. 3.5/5
Muse 2 The Pharoah - Nice musicianship, but it feels a little too pretentious and put-on for me. 3.5/5 Digital Garden - Wow. It sounds almost ethereal. It's just too bad that it's so short. This one could've used at least an extra 90 seconds to it. 4/5 The Work - Another James Brown number, Prince? Well, at least the organic production makes it sound somewhat refreshing. 3.5/5 Everywhere - Energetic, honest sounding, and musically vibrant. It's slightly overbearing for the first few moments, though. 4/5 The Sensual Everafter - Wow. This is exactly what love making should sound like when translated, musically. A truly scintillating climax. 5/5 Mellow - Playful and surprisingly sexual. Enjoyable, if not just a little too slow at first. 4/5 1+1+1 is 3 - This is as funky as a mysognistic, closed-minded song can get. 4/5 She Loves me 4 Me - Simple, but romantic and sweet at the same time. The organic production really shines here 'cause the stripped down effect makes the message feel more genuine. 4.5/5 Family Name - The lyrics are controversial, but I really don't think Prince intended to trivialize the horrors of the holocaust so much as he just wanted to call more attention to the severity of racism in the U.S. The pent up anger in this song with that bass is just chilling. 4.5/5 The Everlasting Now - Finally, some playfulness on this album to balance out the heavy-handed nature of the theme. It's nice to see Prince sounding happy in the studio again like he does here. 4.5/5 Last December - A Purple Rain for the new decade. Inspired and inspiring. 5/5 Overall - 4/5 Very inspired, ambitious album, but it's a shame that it takes itself just a little too seriously, and that the Dark Lord of the Sith tends to grate on the nerves. Still, this is easily Prince's most wonderfully produced album. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

music is so powerful that you dont even notice big brother voice, althought i like the addition of that voice. prince used that voice b4. first time on 1999 don't worry i wont hurt you i only want you to have some fun I think the voice is goofy, but goofy is just how I want my Prince music! And the voice is part of the music. I sing along with it in my deepest voice "the wise one who understood the law as it was handed down..." Honestly. I don't even notice the voice anymore. Propbably coz i got a 3 year old so I Know how 2 block out anoying sounds I suppose i just accept it as a small part of a BIG album! | |
