Du u think that The Time sound was originated by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis? Or at least some of the ideas?

In the early stages of their music. "Innocent (extended version)" by Alexander O Neal, there is the chant "Gotta Loota Love 4 U!" then the hum is the same as Get It Up.

"Didnt Mean 2 Turn U On" by Cherelle plainly copies 1999 in some parts of the melody (lets not EVEN talk about Phil Collins "Invisible Touch" same song).

I start 2 think Prince did not care probably because it might have been their ideas. 2gether they made one of the funniest songs of all time: "If A Girl Answers (Dont Hang Up)" and the #1 hit "Jerk Out"

they probably could du real good 2gether.

I always thought that Alex O'Neal's "Fake" and Andre Cymone's "Dance Electric" were almost the same song.

Obviously Prince, Terry and Jimmy did lunch.

Why do you guys want to tear prince down as if he isn't really that good and he stole music from other musicians, well its the other way around, and guess what, Prince didn't sue them he let them have it.

The Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis produced track "The Pleasure Principle" by Janet Jackson on her "Control" album seems to have exactly the same drum beat as "Electric Chair" from the Batman album which came out a lot later. Both tracks have that bit where it kinda stops then starts again in the middle.

Always thought that was odd, Prince copying them or what?

I think the one Phil Collins song that REALLY sounds like "1999" is "Sussudio". Listen to the synth riff.

Phil Collins said on an mtv interview that he wanted to make a song just like 1999 and thats where he got Sussudio, he said he just changed the words and added horns.

Monty Moir actually wrote and produced "The Pleasure Principal" for Janet (One of my favorite Janet Tracks)

I read that Prince got the riff for "1999" from the Mammas and Pappa's song "Monday, Monday"

Listen to the chords.They are one and the same, just a different tempo.

prince created that sound.jimmy and terryare vey bright and talented and knewq how to capture elements of that better than most others who trie.jesse did a really good job of that also. look at how much p has influenced all popular music .even in obscure dance tracks i hear his horn mash sound from sott period.i hear it everywhere.even in little subtle things.look at how "waterfalls' by tlc borrowd prince's style and melodic ways and added that horn style which wasn't there untl he ,at first,disappointd us with it on Parade.he was ahead of us.Jimmy and Terry would not be shy about telling you that they got their sound from prince.Morris' soloeforts were based on Prince's sound.Jesse wanted to be Prince.So many borrow from him.I hear it in rap,as wel.For instnce,look t Tupac's cd's with his photos of his eyes and eyebrows lik 1999 and songs with titles using 4 nd "u"...it goes on and on.this man started all of the so-called modern stuff you her today. INXS admitted some of their biggest hits were based on listening to Prince.I hear it is Musiq Soulchild's stuff..there'll be a weird noise or sound here or there in the background mix.i used to alwyas liste to prnc in headphone so i could har all the underlying stuff and the "hidden" sound.I remember hearing methodman's first solo cd in headphones and knew the rz had studied Prince because there was so muc going on underthe radar. i could just go on and on...basically,i like alexander o'neal and morris and cherrelle and midnight star and bar kays and yada yada yada,but they are just copies and not on the same levela the original man's work.sorry.

TERRY LEWIS!!! Getting a haircut from my barber! Thats crazy! I was 2 in shock or 2 stunned 2 say anything. But he got up and paid my barber and I sat in the seat after him. He grabbed his kid, then said something about baseball on TV (he has a light voice), then he got in his Black truck and left.

WOW one of my idols! I met 2day! I made 3 compilation CD's dedicated 2 their music and follow up on everything they du...its just amazing!
