I think his appearance was actually pretty good.

Wouldn't it be cool to hear from a musician who was in James Brown's band during that performance? Or maybe someone that was in the audience? Of course, you'd have to believe they were telling the truth that they were actually there.

Also, Prince doesn't really do much to dispel rumors. But maybe for this one incident,he should want to clear his name of being a drug user. Maybe fans should pressure him to dispel this one rumor. If he comes out and talks about it telling us he was not on drugs, then we can trust him and the rumor is put to rest. Of course, if he does not respond, we can assume he's on drugs.

Why would you say Prince was high and MJ was not... ?

I would think they would be both HIGH to be on stage with their idol James Brown. JB has greatly influenced them both and to be on stage together with him would make both of them nervous as hell... just my opinion...

Acting with such arrogance on stage with James Brown is a real mistake. And clearly James Brown didn't like it.


Mike was really cool and truly tried to give A LOT OF RESPECT. He never tried to steal the show. It was James Brown show.

Prince didn't understand that and miserabily failed. And I'm sure he knew that.

i always saw it like this...

James calls mike up and mike hits em with the voice, until the tempo switch picks up and he does the 4 moves he could do at the time...(if you pay attention, the band never changes until JAMES calls it....they dont break it down for mike, or pick it back up for prince until James waves his hand)

even after the dance mike throws his hands up like "i dunno...thats the best i can do" and james hugs him like "you did good"

then mike calls out prince....competition? maybe, maybe he just knows he's a JB disciple as well...

so while James is calling prince...prince is like "shit...i gotta take it to the next level...Chick!....carry me in on your back"...

once on stage he grabs the guitar since he knows mike can't play, and to sing after mike would be like monkey see monkey do....

if he was gonna play guitar...there would be no reason for James to "call" for a break down....keep the groove goin and let him add....so he did...

we all know the res....mic tricks...yelp...then he knocks the light over...

I personally dont think he was high tho....just nervous....

check right after the mic tricks, when prince looks back at james liek "did ya see! did ya!".....so funny....

I think they both did well, but prince was obviously posing a lil too hard and it worked against his ability...but this is early as hell once again...

this was in 83 and prince was wearing the same outfit as in the one first ave show where he played purple rain for the first time.

after leaving the stage prince and his band members left the place and he did not say a word at all.

this was the second time prince shared a stage with JB as he did it before when he was 10.

Damn right it wasn't rehearsed. Prince almost busted his ass getting off the stage, he held onto the light when he lost his balance toppling it. If you listen to the audience's response you would realize that. He was definitely on something that night though. There was a point after he fucked up the on the guitar when he kind of runs his fingers under his nose like he is doing lines. Very weird.

Prince was obviously on some 'trip' and I ain't referring to drugs... at the time he had a bit of a monopoly - The Time, Sheila, Vanity 6, 1999 - he was the man... until the man called him up.

Guess that night was a wake up call for P. - have U ever seen or heard anything like this since? I think not!

when prince does the mike thing he looks at JB but he wasnt even looking. then when JB starts looking at prince he does that weird scream and JB freezes his smile.

prince at the end changes the beat and asks the audience to participate, which was good. MJ did his thing and prince did his. MJ was the good boy and Prince the baddass
