The Rainbow Children

Hi, I'm listening to the Rainbow Children, and getting over the 'voice' and sometimes the messages, I think this is quite a good album - pretty funky in some places.Anybody agree?

I also find that The Vault goes well with it, which, althougth outtakes, I find is overlooked.

I find that the music in Rainbow Children is very excellent....

I seldom pay attention to the lyrics of songs, I'm more interested in the musicianship, unless the lyrics tend to be exceptionally bad/good. TRC has neither, so its just a music experience for me.

I sure wish beyond wishes Wedding Feast was omitted. It is such a flow killer. Truly terrible.

I dont care much about lyrics...and I consider TRC one of my top 5 Prince albums.
Musically, it´s brilliant.

Lyrically, I've never thought about it much but I still think it's one of the most ambitious and inventive albums he's made by far. The only thing that upsets me about this album is the Wedding Feast segment because it messes up the consistency of the record and it sounds out of place. I wouldn't place it upon my top 10 favorite Prince albums, but it's still a winner in my book. Not sure why critics and some of Prince's worthy fans didn't get it and still don't get it as of 2007!

Yep great album got it for £3 in a huge pile of cd's in HMV. lol
Great tracks my favs are Rainbow children, Muse to the Pharaoh,Digital Gardan,
Family Name and The everlasting Now. The only prob I have with it its that terrible low voice on nearly ever track.
Real nice cover too.

The voice and extreme long, drag ass pace are the only things that prevent me from listening to the album alot.

It's actually a clever, brilliant album minus the things that get on my nerves.

I think "Everywhere" is one of those unmentioned gems in his collection that needs more attention.

To me the Rainbow Children is a near miss. But then again, Prince is the genius here--I'm just some fool posting vagina jokes and shit on the Internet.

I would love to hear Prince do more albums like this (minus the slow voice thingy), the music is great with a jazzy funky vibe.

i just listened to TRC last night, just to refresh it and sorta contrast it with Planet.
man, not even close.
the TRC title track sets the bar so high it's not even a fair competition.

When I first listened to TRC, it was almost midnight. I turned the lights off and put the earphones on. After the Cd ended, I was so excited, I couldnt sleep for a long time

I tried to do the same thing with Planet Earth: turned off the lights, put the earphones....but nothing happened this time. Ok, it has great moments, but I really wasn´t excited

The Rainbow Children is such a powerful artistic album where Prince put all his soul into it.

the voice used on this album is the same voice prince has used on tracks like bob george and the whole exodus album
man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

I don't like the first few songs on the album. I like "The Work", then I skip to "1 + 1 + 1 is 3", then I can listen to the rest of the album. Those first few tracks are too damn jazz.

While i understand where ur opinion is coming from, i would like to say that i believe Prince is telling us Something and that each song is important on his Albums. smile Furthermore, in my opinion ther is no connection to "The Vault"! smile

As posted above! I really like NEWS. I wanted TRC because it's the forerunner 2 NEWS and when Prince decided 2 go in the Jazz direction. I love Jazz and 2 have Prince doing it makes me admire him as a musician all the more. From some of the other posts I can understand most fans not liking it coz Jazz, like Latin, is either U like it or U don't. What i like most about Jazz & Latin is, U get 2 hear real musician playing real intruments and it's music from the soul for the soul! And Prince can do it and do it exceptionally well! cool

have to admit... I can't get thru it. A few really great songs (may sound even better live!), but his message is just so heavy handed that I feel like I am choking on it. Let me 'splain something to you Prince... the key to subtlety is not being so obvious! hahahaha.

I wouldn't put this in my top 5 even if I only had 5 albums.

That said, I think it is great that Prince is spreading his creative side and I applaud him for doing that, but TRC was one ride that I didn't want to do twice. By the sales figures, it sounds like I am not alone.
