Joint 2 Joint This is a very strange song, I always am puzzled by it every time I listen... what's the story behind this one? Who plays on it, whats up w/ all the strange noises and spoken parts??
This is just a bizarre track, can someone shed some light?

This is just a bizarre track, can someone shed some light? I can't remember the name of the speaker, but if you have the Emancipation tour book (sold during the Jam of the YEar tour) it broke down everything for the songs on Emancipation. I think the speaker's name was like Poet 99 or something like that. I know Savion Glover is on the track as well. "Old man's gotta be the old man. Fish has got to be the fish."

When I first logged on , only the original poster's question was there. "Old man's gotta be the old man. Fish has got to be the fish."

Great song and very busy and funny too. I still say he unofficially proposed to Mayte at the end of this song then he changes his mind or gets distracted.

A filler.
Emancipation could've been a top 2 cd set that would've deserved repeated listening, if rubbish like this had been given the heave. He stretched himself far too thin that year. Tracks like this reduced the entire set to the 'listen to it once in a blue moon' pile, right next to New Power Soul.

i always keep over the dream that prince would finally do this song live, i think i would just faint...and this song isn't filler!! this is a hot funk sweaty make that funky face slamma jamma! man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

It´s a great funk song but....now that you remind me of it....I think it would have been a much , much better song for the Exodus album ( thing is, neither Prince nor 0+> officially sang on that one, and it was probably not written yet back then). Exoudus is such a funky little side project that could have been so much more, and the addition of Joint 2 Joint would have made Exodus and the NPG more of a 90s version of P-Funk...
It gets kind of lost on Emancipation and would have fit so much better on Exodus or Newpowersoul...it could have made both album more interesting and complete and it also could have brought some balance to the not-so-popular tracklist of NPS or the overuse of interludes and segues on Exodus...both factors ( choice of songs for NPS and overdoing the segues on Exodus ) flawed those albums. Joint 2 Joint perfectly fits on those albums, musicwise. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

If one doesn't enjoy funk then it's obvious that one won't like the song. But to me it easily one of his funkiest "released" track.

It goes to show how people's opinions differ, I think this song shows Prince's genius.Emancipation could've been a top 2 cd set that would've deserved repeated listening, if rubbish like this had been given the heave.
