What do you guys make of this?
"Tracy Chapman, Bill Cosby, Janet Jackson, Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan, Prince, Oprah Winfrey, and Peggy Cooper Cafritz (co-founder of the Duke Ellington School of the Arts in Washington, D.C.) collectively donated approximately US$11 million to ensure the completion of the film. Most of these individuals (excluding Prince and Winfrey) are pictured briefly toward the end of the closing credits." |

Well, you´ve already answered your own question...he donated some money but he doesn´t appear in the closing credits...which is not a big surprise since I can´t imagine Prince wearing an X cap. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

That was a great effort and I'm proud of Prince for being a contributer to that.

Definitely a great film and good of Prince to help Spike out.
Was this common knowledge around the time the movie came out? like, was it in the media and stuff that prince had contributed financially towards the movie? |

The company that released the movie would not pay for Spike to film the Mecca scenes. Spike was stuck in Egypt with a movie that was 60% done and was told to return back to the US for post production. Because Lee had such an emotional investment in the film along with the need to do Malcolm justice ,Lee called every major Black entertainer in America and asked for contributions for the movie to be finished. To my knowledge every Black entertainer that he called gave him the cash to finish the film.

Yes. It wasn't a secret that this group banded together to finance the completion of the movie.
