Prince And Clear Channel Just checked out a Belgium website for the Oct. 18th concert. It's being organized by Clear Channel.
I thought Prince spent last year touring, complaining about Clear Channel. For that matter, when he was here in DC he performed at Warner Theater! Any thoughts on this???

Clear Channel sponsored one of his Canada gigs during the ONA tour too. This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

I think they sponsored his US tour too, but don't quote me on that. But anyway... yes, Prince is a hypocrite, for the 1000th time

I think they sponsored his US tour too, but don't quote me on that. I sort of doubt it (though I wouldn't be shocked), but if it was there was no visible proof (at least not at the concert I was at, nor the ones I read about) as there was in Canada. We don't know the details. Could be lots of explanations...

The whole European Tour is sponsored by Clear Channel. But like Berry said we don't know the details.

The details of what exactly? Clear Channel's practices are well known if you know where to look. This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

Yes. And the explanation is Clear Channel is sponsoring his tour, despite his nightly rants against corporate radio. Prince is a hypocrite. There's your explanation. You're right, it was plain as day.

I have nothing to say, I just wanted to see S3V3N's avatar...
Actually, maybe he's pimping Clear Channel??? Using them for what he can get? Maybe they heard about his rants & are trying to work something out with him, wooing him into talks by doing things like this?? Just guessing, I don't really care as long as he plays...

I agree with princes descion to use clear channel as a sponsor. They could could be putting that money into something worse than promoting princes message on radio programmers and live music. Prince is pimping them and rightly so. keep your friends close and your enemies even closer!! You do as I say

Clear Channel owns and operates @ 60-70% of the concert halls in the USA and abroud. Prince has no choice but to use them if he wishes to tour.

I think Clear Channel own the Hammersmith Apollo and the Manchester Apollo. For an artist without the backing and organisation of a large record company it probably makes sense to tour with a sponsor / promoter who can do all the hard work for him.

According to a source who has contacts in the local bar/club scene... when Prince played a concert here in March at the Murat Theatre (run by Clear Channel), the contract required him to do any aftershow at a CC venue. So Prince had to play at this lame bar where CC does their club shows, instead of playing at the Slippery Noodle (his first choice and a local favorite). Please note: effective March 21, 2010, I've stepped down from my prince.org Moderator position. |

Nobody questioned Prince touring with a sponsor. This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Like Ticketmaster is to ticketing, CC is too becoming to concerts nowadays. They own so many venues, concert promotions, that he would be hard pressed to go with another promoter.

For an entire tour he has a choice like a lot of people do. He just chose CC, even if they do own a lot concert facilities. The dumb thing is that he chooses to complain about them but they're his choice to put money in his pocket. When he has left the building they want nothing to do with him and won't promote his career any other way like they do others.
