Look what's in the top 40 nowadays This was 1988. And regardless of how you feel, it all boils down to what your friends and the people around you thought of the music when they heard it initially. I saw people turned off by the singles. I remember in 1988 hearing Alphabet St in a dept store and overhearing two guys talking "the only good part of this song is the yeah yeahs yeahs". It just didn't catch on at the time. I remember playing a mix tape and one guy saying he loved "Girls and Boys" and then "Glam Slam" came on, and he just hated it. "Glam Slam" was a weak choice for the second single.I can see why it bombed. He really should have released the superior title track instead. Hey,didn't we have this discussion many times before??

Lovesexy is one of my favourite Prince albums. The title track is incredible. Did anyone ever get a remixed version of the song Lovesexy that was played in a 20 min BBC documentary at the time of the Lovesexy tour. The documentary also showed him doing a soundcheck and playing The Ladder. The remixed version sounded great, but I have never managed to get a hold of it. Anyone out there have it or know of it's whereabouts?

Is that the show where Mavis Staples was singing 'God Is Alive'? I can't remember that bit (haven't seen this programme in about 18 years!!) but it had backstage Paisley Park footage, including the wardrobe dept making the costumes for the tour. Don't know if it was broadcast anywhere else other than the UK. Maybe some of the older UK fans remember this show, I think it was on BBC2.

That remix of Lovesexy sounded great, but don't know if it was ever made public. The performance of The Ladder was also fantastic. These London concerts have rewoken my love of Prince. Haven't given him much attention for several years now, but the show on saturday was great, and I've booked tickets for the final show too. I'm feeling like a 16 year old again!!

The only thing I don't like about the album is the cover (I know the ladies like it). I just got the tracked version of the cd a couple of months ago and I enjoy it even more now.

B4 -> Cindy C. -> 2 nigs united -> Le Grind -> Superfunkycalifragisexy -> Bob George -> Anna Stesia -> Eye No -> Glam Slam -> Lovesexy -> When 2 r in love -> I wish u heaven Now wouldnt this be (by far) the best Prince album ever...for me it would... Cool but not possible as Vinyl couldn't hold that much. You need to assume a maximum of about 24 mins each side. 'I loved him then, I love him now and will love him eternally. He's with our son now.' Mayte 21st April 2016 = the saddest quote I have ever read! RIP Prince and thanks for everything.

I recently bought another copy of Lovesexy on CD and it was tracked (I live in the UK so no idea if this varies depending on country?) My reason to re-buy was because I was transferring everything onto my iTunes and I like putting together my own versions of albums (like a mix of Black and Lovesexy) and couldn't do that with one 45 min track! 'I loved him then, I love him now and will love him eternally. He's with our son now.' Mayte 21st April 2016 = the saddest quote I have ever read! RIP Prince and thanks for everything.

I luv Lovesexy. I like the fact that the cd is like one long single.(It plays straight through.) You cannot skip to... or shuffle any songs. I do not think no other artist(s) have done that with any of their cds. That was a good idea...even though i am sure it probably piss off some people.

Anna Stesia 5. Lovesexy 6. When 2 R in love 7. I wish U heaven 8. Positivity [Edited 8/7/07 15:45pm] That would have been one hell of an album if released as a two album set with this tracklisting. (This is a repost of when we were discussing The Black Album vs Lovesexy)
I don't think there's really any comparison except to say that When 2 R in Love appears on both albums. The Black album is a compilation of some funky ass songs with a badass attitude. When 2 R in Love seems out of place as the album's only sensitive ballad against the backdrop of crude attitude-filled funk. Lovesexy, on the other hand, is a conceptual suite with full on orchestral passages that explores deeply spiritual territory. When 2 R in Love fits perfectly between Lovesexy and I wish You Heaven. It's the antithesis of the Black Album in that it's absolutely sublime. Lovesexy is the ultimate Price album IMHO. There's been some conversation around here lately comparing P to Mozart. This is the one that's on a par with the best of classical music. That being said, I think it matters WHY you listen to Prince that sets the context for how you are going to gauge any particular album. If I'm in a randy mood I'll reach for the Black Album and it will be the best for the moment, hands down. If I'm in a moood where I want to melt into oneness with my partner then Lovesexy is the transcendent shit. I've always thought of SOTT as Prince's White Album analogue- so many songs in so many styles and all of them killer. We all have our faves and it probably is completely subjective. I've heard peeps here rave over Chaos and Disorder but aside from Into the Light and Dig U Better Dead, it's the one Prince album that I cannot even stand listening to. Out of all the Prince Albums, Lovesexy is in a class by itself. I've heard people bitch that it has no track boundries but I think that's perfectly appropriate. Lovesexy is the closest thing to a masterpiece symphony that Prince has ever done. It's meant to be listened to as a suite. The Black Album is not even in the same league but then nothing else he's ever done is either. Lovesexy rules.
