“I might try a symphony, might try composing something with flutes” is what Prince said in a recent interview when asked his future music plans. What a fabulous answer. Most artists these days would say “I’m going to take a break for a while then hire Timbaland to make an album that sounds like everybody else”. Not Prince though. He’s going to have a go at a symphony, it’ll probably take him about 20 minutes he’s that clever. You could lock me in a room for 3 weeks asking me to write a symphony and I’d probably get as far as putting my name on the top of the paper.

As for composing something with flutes, why doesn’t he take this concept a stage further and insist that at the press conference about the project, journalists may only ask him a question via the medium of flute. What a fantastic event it would be to have 50 journalists tootling away on flutes hoping Prince answers them. They would have to be careful though because if he didn’t like their question he would take their flute off them and they would have to sit at the back of the room facing the wall.

The press is currently full of stories about Prince’s demands such as oxygen bar etc. I say good on him. If I was in Prince’s position, my demands would be bordering on the illegal. He’s Prince, he can do whatever he wants. If he wants a 24 hour coconut shy in his hotel, fine, If he wants much missed UK childrens TV presenter Wizadora dressed as a bear and waving a fish in his room, fine. If he would quite like glamour models playing jaunty tunes on trombone while he journeys to the arena, who are we to argue?
